Project: FA2521-16-Q-B181
Title: Upgrade ‘Summer’ Severe Weather Tool for 45 SW/WS.
Subject: Q & A; 12 Aug 16
Q1:
Q - After reading the Bauman report, what data will be available?
A - The data that will be available is the 1989-2012 data set used in the developing the original tool. One will not have to recreate any datasets used by Bauman.
NOTE: consideration was given to include the new data from 2013-2016, but two (2) of those years did not have 1500Z sounding data, due to operational budget cuts.
Therefore, adding only 2 years of useful data was deemed not cost effective and thus dropped from the requirements.
Q2:
Q - Will the successful contractor be given the QC'd 1500 Z sounding data (2798 of them) that Bauman described?
A - The data that will be available is the 1989-2012 data set used in the development of the original tool.
The original 1500Z sounding data may not be included, but the derived parameters, e.g. various stability indexes will be included.
Q3:
Q - What about all of the potential stability, moisture, etc. parameters on page 12 of the Bauman report? These could be computed, but if the procedure is not exactly the same as those used previously, the potential to arrive at different results would affect the statistics--especially the comparison between the existing algorithm and the new one.
A - The data that will be available is the 1989-2012 data set used in the developing the original tool. The original 1500Z sounding data may not be included, but the derived parameters needed to do this project will be included, e.g. various stability indexes.
Q4:
Q - Will the flow regimes by day be available?
A - Yes. All predictor variables used in developing the original tool will be provided, including flow regime.
Q5:
Q - Will the severe weather reports be made available?
A – Yes, the ground truth whether severe weather was observed or not in the verification area will be provided.
