Questions/Answers from Site Visit

1. Building 1 and 2 have skylights, and in order to have access to check the LPS it will require some type of catwalk, or scaffolding. Will this be provided or will the contractor have to provide the catwalk, or scaffolding?

This will not be provided by the base. All equipment (to include but not limited to lifts, ladders, scaffolds, etc.) required to access LPS shall be provided by the contractor.

2. Is there access to the roof where we could take the scaffolds?

What buildings are in question? Some buildings have roof access from inside. Was this not verified by the contractors on the site visit?

3. Is there any roof protocols for the buildings?

Yes for some…ie Bldgs 1, 2, 3.

4. Can copies of the Elevations, electrical one lines which will include the Gen Yards, and Roof plans for each building be provided?

Copies can be provided where available.

5. Are As Built Drawings available for the lightning protection systems on the buildings?

Copies can be provided where available; however, LPS as-builts are not likely available for all sites to be tested.

6. If not, are roof top drawings available for each building and can the contractor be provided a copy?

Roof top plan view drawings are likely available; however, full roof top drawings detailing all equipment and elevations may not be available. Copies of existing layouts can be provided to the contractor.

7. Are there safety tie off points on top of the ridged roofs? Or on the skylights (Building #1, #2, etc.)?

I don’t believe there are any safety tie points.

8. Will all of the roofs have to be accessed from ladders or lifts? Or can we use the roof hatches?

Roof hatches may be used where available; otherwise, the contractor shall provide all equipment required to access the LPS.

9. Are there ground rod test wells on all of the buildings or will we need to locate and excavate for testing?

Visible ground rod test wells are not likely available on ALL buildings; however, there will be some that are visible and accessible. The contractor shall locate and excavate where necessary for testing.

10. Does every part need to be verified that it is tight or just the ones that appear loose in the visual inspection?

The contractor shall inspect each system as required in the PWS, AFI 32-1065 AFSPC Supplement 1, and the appendices of NFPA 780.

The PWS states the following:

The contractor shall visually and physically inspect each system and determine if:

-The system is in good repair. Inspect all visible parts of the system.

-There are loose connections that might cause high resistance joints. Pull or tug on conductors and connections to insure sound connection being careful not to damage the system in the process.
