2.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: The gage block set shall consist of 8 Long Gage Blocks ranging in size from 5 inches to 20 inches. This set shall come in a hardwood container, with slot to hold each individual gage block. It shall also contain the appropriate accessories.
3.0 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: The gage block set shall embody the following salient performance and product characteristics:
3.1 Sizes: The set shall consist of 8 sizes of Long Gage Blocks of the following sizes (in):
5.000 6.000 7.000 8.000 10.000 12.000 16.000 20.000
3.2 Style (Shape): The Long Gage Block set shall comply with the square requirements of ASME B89.1.9-2002.
3.3 General Dimensions: The Long Gage Block set shall comply with the nominal dimensions of the cross-section and their limit deviations, including center hole requirements, of ASME B89.1.9-2002.
3.4 Class and Type (Material): The Long Gage Block set shall comply with the steel material requirements of ASME B89.1.9-2002. Long Gage Blocks shall be made of high grade steel capable of being finished with surfaces that will wring readily, and that will be stable for length within the tolerance requirement.
3.5 Tolerance Grade: The Long Gage Block set shall comply with the tolerance requirements of Grade 0 of ASME B89.1.9-2002. Long Gage Blocks shall comply with gage length, variation in length and flatness requirements of Grade 0.
3.6 Measuring Faces: The Long Gage Block set shall comply with measuring face requirements of Grade 0 of ASME B89.1.9-2002. The measuring faces of Long Gage Blocks shall wring readily. The edges of the measuring faces shall be rounded to a radius not exceeding 0.3 mm or provided with a chamfer not exceeding 0.3 mm. The transition between the chamfer and the measuring face shall be such that the wringing property of the measuring faces is not impaired.
3.7 Wringing: The Long Gage Block set shall have surfaces that can be wrung.
3.8 Side Face: The Long Gage Block set shall comply with side face requirements of ASME B89.1.9-2002. Long Gage Blocks shall comply with side face flatness, side face parallelism, side face perpendicularity and side face edge requirements.
3.9 Dimensional Stability: The Long Gage Block set shall comply with dimensional stability requirements of ASME B89.1.9-2002. The maximum permissible changes in length per year of Long Gage Blocks shall meet requirements of +/- (0.02 µm +0.25 x 10-6L), where L is in meters, as stated in Table 2 of ASME B89.1.9-2002.
3.10 Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: The Long Gage Block set shall comply with Coefficient of Thermal Expansion requirements of ASME B89.1.9-2002. Long Gage Blocks shall have a coefficient of thermal expansion of (11.5 +/- 1.0) x 10-6/°C in the temperature range 10°C to 30°C.
3.11 Hardness: The Long Gage Block set shall comply with hardness requirements of ASME B89.1.9-2002. The measuring faces of Long Gage Blocks shall have a Vickers hardness of not less than 800 HV 0.5 or Rockwell C62.
3.12 Marking: The Long Gage Block set shall comply with marking requirements of
ASME B89.1.9-2002. Each Long Gage Block shall be permanently marked with the nominal length and the name or trademark of the manufacturer.
3.13 Identification Number: The Long Gage Block set shall comply with identification number requirements of ASME B89.1.9-2002. Each Long Gage Block shall be marked with an identification number.
3.14 Accessories: The Long Gage Block set shall contain the following accessories:
tie rods, triangular base, a pair of half round jaws, and a pair of straight jaws. The accessories shall comply with all requirements of ASME B89.1.9-2002.
3.15 Packaging and Packing: The packaging and packing of the Long Gage Block set shall be such that no damage is done to the Long Gage Blocks during shipping.
3.16 Cases: Each Long Gage Block shall have its own slot in a hardwood case to prevent the Long Gage Blocks from damage during shipping. The cases shall have positive action latches.
3.17 Operating Environment: All purchase description specifications shall be met when the unit is used within an environment where the temperature is 68 ± 1.0 ºF and the humidity is 20% to 50% RH.
3.18 Model and Serial Number Identification: The Long Gage Block set shall have a label attached in a visible location that identifies the Noun, Part Number, Serial Number and Manufacturer. Unique item identification shall follow the Item Identification and Valuation clause as stated in the contract.
