About this file
This document contains Questions and Answers related to Solicitation Number FA8604-24-R-B014 for a Storage Aid System at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The key details are:
The solicitation is for a 6-ton top running single girder bridge crane system for loading, unloading, and staging of large components within Building 255. Prospective contractors had questions about arm height, crane voltage, mobile workstations, and the possibility of a double girder crane design. The agency provided responses, noting that arm height is not specified but 11 inches of vertical clearance is required, 460V 3-phase power is available, no drawings exist for the mobile workstations, and a double girder design would be technically acceptable. The agency also extended the proposal due date by 2 days in response to recent inquiries requiring an amendment to the specifications.

Wright-Patterson AFB Question Set #3 13 Aug 2024
Q. In the bid specifications for the shelving project, appendix c, it does not specify the height of the arms under 3.2.5. ARMS (page 3). Can you please provide this information?
A: An arm height is not being specified in this case. However, the contractor shall maintain at least 11” of unrestricted vertical clearance between each level of arms (including roll-out mechanisms).
Q: In appendix A and B for both crane systems, neither one calls out what voltage is available for the cranes. Is it 460 Volts AC 60 HZ 3 phase or is it 230 Volts AC 60 HZ 3 phase?
A: 460V AC 60 Hz 3 Phase is available for both cranes Q: Para 3.1.4 of the Cover PD requests an option of 6 mobile workstations and references the LWR401-01 drawing for drawer sizes, but there is no drawing of a mobile workstation on that drawing or LWR401-02. Could you please supply the workstation drawing?
A: There are no drawings that have been generated for the mobile cabinet workstations. The reference to the drawing would have just been for location, but since they are mobile they ended up being removed from the drawing to avoid clutter. The specifications provide a very detailed list of requirements that should make it clear what is needed.
Q: Is it possible to extend the due date a few days? We are worried we won’t have all the quotes back in time.
A. Recent inquiries have required an amendment to the specification, so the proposal date has been extended 2 days.
Q: 3. REQUIREMENTS > 3.1. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The crane shall be a 6 ton top running single girder bridge crane system (designed for two independent 3 ton bridges) for the loading, unloading, and staging of large components within building 255 as shown on AF Drawing LWR401-01.
Preliminary engineering shows that there is not a “welded structural steel box section, wide flange beam, standard beam, reinforced beam or a section fabricated from structural plates and shapes” available or that can be engineered to meet the overall hook height requirements. All single girder crane options are too tall.
Will you find a bid that includes a double girder bridge crane design with nested trolley technically acceptable?
A top running single girder type is preferred, but the specification for Appendix B has been revised to open the requirements to other types.
