About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers file for Fast Ropes Equipment related to Solicitation Number F3CTSG5167AW01. The Q&A provides detailed specifications for a 30 ft fast rope with an ABLE termination and steel ring, intended for use with a tripod in static descent applications. Key details include: the rope does not require FRIES insertion loops, the steel anchor ring should be rated to 10K lbs, and a static anchor design is sufficient without a pulley.
Additional specifications include a preference for steel carabiners with a 1" gate opening, bulk delivery of equipment, and a preferred delivery timeframe of 60 days after contract award. The equipment is for the Department of the Air Force Global Strike Command, with the government's contract obligation contingent on fund availability. The ropes will be used from a tripod, not for aerial deployment, and the equipment must meet specific certification and performance standards.

Questions and Answers
(last updated 06/23/25)
Q: Is CLIN 0008 FAST Rope w/Steel Ring, 30 ft with or without the FRIES Insertion Loops?
A: This line item is a 30 ft fast rope with an ABLE termination no FRIES insertion loops are on it.
Q: Are the FAST Ropes required ONLY ABLE Terminations OR the SME/END USERS want a Steel Ring attached to the ABLE Termination?
A: The FAST ropes can be just the ABLE termination.
Q: Fast Rope Usage Environment:
Are the 30 ft fast ropes intended for aerial deployment (e.g., helicopters) or static descent applications (e.g., training towers)? Clarification here would assist in verifying performance specifications for rope core and abrasion resistance. If you are using for the aerial deployment, the Yates Fast rope has a few options with the steel ring: either with fries’ end or soft eye loops.
A: No aerial Deployment, just from a tripod.
Q: Steel Ring Specifications:
Is there a minimum required load rating or design standard for the integrated steel anchor ring on the rope?
A: The steel anchor ring on the rope should be at one end to connect the rope to the tripod.
The average load on one rope at a time Is 1K lbs, following the 10:1 ration the loop should be rated to 10K lbs.
Q: Tripod Configuration – Vertical Lift Capability:
Should the proposed EN 795 certified tripod include vertical lift or mechanical advantage features, or is a static anchor design sufficient for mission needs? Is the pulley needed as well or just the tripod?
A: Static anchor is sufficient; we do not need the pully just the tripod.
Q: Carabiner Specifications: what is the preferred materials since both steel and aluminum can meet 50kN. Steel is a stronger metal and will show visible damage better than aluminum material during inspection. Also, is there a minimum gate opening required? Ie. ¾” or 1” gate opening.
A: Steel is preferred with a 1” gate.
Q: Is there a preferred or maximum allowable delivery timeframe post-award that vendors should plan around (e.g., 60-90 days ARO)?
A: Preferred timeframe is 60 days ARO
Q: Staging Requirements:
Should the equipment be packaged into individual deployment kits per MAF site, or is bulk delivery to the destination address acceptable?
A: Bulk delivery is acceptable.
