"Openings" are the space between two shelves where books can be placed. All shelving units need to include a top shelf or other "top" to protect books from dust, have an open back to allow access to wall outlets, have shelves that are adjustable (can be moved to different heights), have a shelving configuration that does not allow the lip or edges of each column to hide the books shelved on the extreme left or right of each shelf, have back stops to prevent books from sliding off the back of the shelf, and have center stops or some other configuration that prevents books from sliding from one column to the next. Double faced units (see additional options below) need to have something that stops the books from sliding from one face to the other and the shelves need to be independently adjustable on each side.
