About this file
This is a Salient Characteristics document for a vertical contour saw procurement at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona (Air Education and Training Command). The Air Force is seeking to purchase a high-speed, metal-cutting vertical contour saw through Request for Quote (RFQ) F2UT506104A006. Quotes must be submitted by email to the primary point of contact, Carter Woodward (carter.woodward@us.af.mil; 623-856-2741), with a backup contact of Thomas Jobe (thomas.jobe@us.af.mil; 623-856-3446). All questions regarding the requirement must be submitted by close of business on June 9, 2026, with answers to be distributed by June 10, 2026.
The required vertical contour saw must meet specific technical specifications including a minimum 36-inch throat depth with 12-inch maximum workpiece height, a 3-horsepower motor with dual-range variable speed control (50-415 FPM and 550-5,000 FPM), and an articulating work table capable of 45-degree right and 10-degree left tilting for precision cuts. Additional mandated features include an integrated blade welding station (with welder, annealer, grinder, and shear accommodating .125" to .75" blade widths), V-type carbide blade guides for .125" to 1" blades, balanced cast-iron blade wheels with ball-bearing hubs, visual blade tension indicators with up to 3 inches of tension take-up, and operational accessories such as manual feed screw, rip fence, miter gauge, circle cutting attachment, chip blower, work light, magnifying glass, and electrical door interlocks for safety.

Salient Characteristics for a Vertical Contour Saw
· Throat Capacity & Work Height: The saw must provide a minimum throat depth (blade-to-column distance) of 36 inches and accommodate a maximum workpiece height of 12 inches.
· Motor and Speed Control: Must be equipped with a 3-horsepower blade drive motor featuring a dual-range variable speed system. The speed ranges must cover low speeds (approximately 50 to 415 FPM) and high speeds (approximately 550 to 5,000 FPM), monitored by an integrated electric tachometer.
· Articulating Work Table: Must feature a tilting work table capable of adjusting 45 degrees to the right and 10 degrees to the left for angled and mitered cuts. The table working height must be approximately 40 inches.
· Integrated Blade Welding Station: Must include a built-in blade welder, annealer, grinder, and shear (accommodating blade widths from .125” to .75”). This station must allow operators to create custom-length blades and break/re-weld blades for internal hole cutting.
· Blade Guide & Arm System: Must utilize V-type carbide blade guides (capable of holding .125” to 1” blades). The upper guide arm must be adjustable for varying material sizes via a rack-and-pinion hand wheel mechanism that can be locked in place.
· Tensioning & Wheel Construction:
· Must feature balanced, cast-iron blade wheels with ball-bearing hubs and rubber crowns to support high-speed operation.
· Must include a visual blade tension indicator and provide up to 3 inches of tension take-up on the upper wheel.
· Operational & Safety Accessories: The machine must include the following integrated accessories and safety features:
· Manual feed screw
· Rip fence and miter gauge
· Circle cutting attachment
· Chip blower to clear the cutting path
· Work light and magnifying glass for precision visibility
· Electrical door interlocks for operator safety
