GENERAL REQUIREMENTS SUMMARY OF WORK

PART 1 GENERAL
1.01 WORK UNDER THIS CONTRACT
A. Provide all equipment, labor, and material required to remove existing boilers, install new boilers, modifications to the existing flue, heating hot water piping, gas piping and controls for the Archive Building and Museum/Visitors Center.
1.02 LOCATION AND INSPECTION OF SITE
A. The site of the work is at the DC Booth National Historic Fish Hatchery, located at 423 Hatchery Circle, Spearfish, South Dakota.
B. Prospective bidders are encouraged to visit the work area in order to examine the existing site conditions. Arrangements can be made to inspect the site by contacting the Project Leader (605) 642-7730.
1.03 SURVEY DATA
A. The Contractor shall be responsible for all construction surveys and layout required for performance of all work described herein.
B. The information provided is the best available in reference to the location of existing conditions, equipment, piping etc., and facilities and should be verified by the Contractor prior submitting bid.
1.04 APPLICABLE CODES, STANDARDS, AND SPECIFICATIONS
A. All work shall comply with codes and standards applicable to each type of work and as listed in individual sections of these specifications.
1. Where a conflict occurs between referenced document and the Project
Specifications, the Project Specifications govern.
2. Where a conflict occurs between referenced documents, the document containing the most stringent requirements governs.
3. Where referenced documents are not specified by date, the document current at the bid opening applies.

4. Conform to all regulations and statutes of the State of South Dakota and to all Federal regulations which apply.
5. Materials, applications, state standard specifications and tests specified by reference to published standards of a society, association, code, or other published standards are included in the specification as if written in their entirety.
1.05 REFERENCE STANDARDS

1.06 MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS
A. Where manufacturer's products and processes are included in the specifications by reference, they shall be included in these specifications as if written in their entirety.
B. Products and processes included in the specifications shall conform to the manufacturer's latest published specifications.
C. Upon request of the Contracting Officer, the Contractor shall provide a sworn affidavit from the manufacturer certifying that material, products, and processes delivered and used on the project meet the specified requirements. This affidavit shall not relieve the Contractor from his responsibility for full compliance with the requirements of the specifications.
1.07 SUBSTITUTIONS
A. The Contractor shall provide all equipment, materials, and services as specified or noted on the drawings, unless an approved substitution is obtained.
B. Where multiple manufacturers' names are noted, the first named shall indicate the basis for equipment design and drawing layout for the project.
C. Requests for substitutions must be submitted, in writing, to the Contracting Officer for approval. Submittals shall include all data necessary for thorough comparison with specified item and reason for the proposed substitution.
D. The Contractor shall pay all labor and material costs required as a result of the proposed substitutions.
1.08 MEANS AND METHODS
A. Means and methods of construction shall be such as the Contractor or subcontractors may choose; subject, however, to the Contracting Officer's right to reject means and methods proposed which:
1. Constitute a hazard to the work, persons, or property.
2. Will not produce finished work in accordance with terms of the contract.
3. Are contrary to specified means or methods included in the contract.

B. The right to reject means and methods of the Contractor or subcontractor shall not be construed or interpreted as acceptance of control of means and methods by the Contracting Officer.
C. The Contracting Officer's approval of means and methods or failure to exercise right to reject means and methods shall not relieve the Contractor of the obligation to complete the work required by the contract.
D. Total responsibility for control of all means and methods lies with the Contractor for all work.
1.09 ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
A. Pollution Control
1. The Contractor shall abate and control all environmental pollution arising from construction activities by complying with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations concerning environmental pollution control and abatement, as well as the specified requirements in this contract.
B. Prevention of Water Pollution
1. The Contractor is responsible for implementing the terms and requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State and local governments. The Contractor shall apply for and execute all permits as required by the State.
2. The Contractor's construction activities shall be performed by methods that will prevent entrance or accidental spillage of solid matter, contaminants, debris, and other objectionable pollutants and wastes into streams, flowing or dry watercourses, lakes, ponds, and underground water sources. The Contractor shall dispose of all pollutants such as petroleum products, rubbish, cement, concrete, etc., and objectionable material shall be hauled away in tanks or barrels or buried in an approved landfill.
3. Sanitary facilities, such as chemical toilets, shall be located far enough from wells, live streams, or ponds to prevent pollution of the water.

C. Abatement of Air Pollution
1. The Contractor shall comply with applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations concerning the prevention and control of air pollution.
2. Construction activities shall be performed in such a manner that air pollution is held to a minimum.
3. Burning of materials, trees and brush, combustible construction materials, and rubbish will not be permitted. Construction debris shall be hauled off the site to an approved site.
D. Environmental Litigation
1. Time lost due to work stoppage because of failure of the Contractor to comply with these requirements may not be the subject of a claim for extension of time or for costs or damages.
E. Fossils and Artifacts
1. Should the Contractor discover any fossils or artifacts during construction operations, such objects shall become the property of the Government.
The Contractor shall cease construction operations in the area of the "find," and immediately notify the station manager of such discovery.
Construction operations may proceed in other areas not affected by this clause. Care shall be exercised by the Contractor not to damage fossils or artifacts uncovered during excavation operations.
1.10 COORDINATION
A. The Contractor shall notify the Contracting Officer at least 48 hours prior to putting any utility out of service.
B. Coordinate all work of the project to facilitate orderly progress of work at all times.
C. In the event that other contracts are in progress concurrently with this contract, the
Contractor shall coordinate his work so as not to disrupt progress of other work, and shall cooperate to facilitate orderly progress of all work.

1.11 SAFETY
A. Contractor Responsibility.
1. The Contractor shall assume full responsibility and liability for compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations pertaining to the protection of workers, visitors to the site, and persons occupying areas adjacent to the site, including the provisions of 29CFR1910, and 29CFR1926 of the Code of Federal Regulations. The Contractor shall hold harmless the Government for failure to comply with any applicable safety or health regulation on the part of himself, his employees, or his subcontractors.
2. The Contractor shall be responsible for providing medical examinations and maintaining medical records of personnel as required by the regulations.
B. Provide and maintain a basic first aid kit for use of workers.
1. Provide first aid supplies commensurate with size of project with items necessary for first aid treatment of all injuries.
2. Advise all workers of the location of first aid supplies.
3. Post emergency telephone numbers of the local fire department and the nearest ambulance or hospital in a conspicuous location.
C. Barricades
1. Provide and maintain temporary barricades as required for safety.
D. Provide at least one nonfreezing-type fire extinguisher at the worksite. Place in location readily accessible to workers.
1.12 PERMITS AND FEES
A. The Contractor shall be responsible for obtaining all necessary local, state, and federal permits and licenses, and payment of related fees, per the Contract Clauses.

DIVISION 1 SECTION 01200
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS PROJECT MEETINGS

1.01 PRECONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE
A. A Preconstruction Conference may be held after the award of the bid and prior to the notice to proceed at the discretion of the Contracting Officer.
1.02 PROGRESS MEETING
A. The Contractor or his project superintendent shall be available to meet with the Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR) at the jobsite periodically during construction to discuss work progress.
B. At the above meetings, the Contractor or superintendent shall give verbal reports of progress on the project, discuss the work schedule, and present all conflicts, discrepancies, or other difficulties.

DIVISION 1 SECTION 01500
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS TEMPORARY FACILITIES AND CONTROLS

1.01 CONTRACTOR USE OF PREMISES
A. All operations of the Contractor (including storage of materials) upon

C. Waste Disposal. Provide a dumpster or other suitable containers for construction waste. Dispose of construction waste off-site at an approved landfill area.
D. The Contractor shall be permitted to utilize Government resources and utilities described in succeeding paragraphs during execution of the work. Such use shall be conditional upon availability and responsible use, and shall not interfere with Government operations. The Contractor shall be responsible for repair of damages resulting from such use, and shall clean the areas and facilities used when the work is complete.
1.02 WEATHER PROTECTION
A. Provide necessary protection against weather to keep all materials, equipment, and completed work free from damage during shipment, in storage, or in place.
1.03 TEMPORARY UTILITIES
A. Electricity and Lighting
1. The Contractor will be permitted to use existing electrical service for equipment required to perform the work.
2. Provide and maintain temporary lighting as may be required for construction and safety purposes.
B. Telephone
1. The Contractor shall be responsible for providing temporary phone service to job site.

C. Water
1. The Contractor will be permitted to use existing water service for use directly related to the performance of the work.
D. Toilets
1. The Contractor will be permitted to use restrooms available on-site.
1.04 ACCESS ROADS AND STORAGE AREAS
A. All operations of the Contractor (including storage of materials) upon Government premises shall be confined to areas authorized or approved by the

C. Materials which are stored at the site shall be protected from the weather by the

D. Return all storage areas to their original condition or as approved by the Contracting Officer upon completion of the work.
E. The Government will designate all access routes to the work site prior to initiation of contract work. The designated routes must be strictly adhered to unless specific deviations are authorized by the Government.
F. Observe all laws and regulations of the local, county, and state authorities in the use of all public roads and highways for the transportation of materials and equipment in connection with work on the project.
1.05 PROTECTION AND RESTORATION
A. The Contractor shall protect all structures, including vegetation, during the progress of the work; shall remove from the site all debris and unused materials;
and shall, upon completion of the work, restore the site as nearly as possible to its original condition, including the replacement, at the Contractor's expense, of any facility or landscaping which has been damaged. The Contractor shall limit removal of any vegetation to those which interfere with the construction.

1.06 PARKING
A. The Contractor shall provide employee parking at the project site at a location approved by the Contracting Officer.
B. Park vehicles to avoid interference with normal construction activities and to avoid interference with Government operations.
1.07 SAFETY
A. The Contractor shall provide, erect and maintain all necessary barricades, suitable and sufficient flasher lights, danger signals and signs, and shall take all necessary precautions for the protection of the work and the safety of the public.
B. Provide at least one nonfreezing-type fire extinguisher in each workshop and shed used for storage of materials at the workaday. Place in location readily accessible to workmen.
C. Provide and maintain a basic first aid kit for use of workmen.

DIVISION 1 SECTION 01300
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS SUBMITTALS
01300-1
PART I GENERAL
1.01 SUBMITTALS
A. Refer to "Materials and Workmanship" and "Specifications and Drawings for Construction," of the contract documents.
B. Refer to the technical specifications for all submittals required.
C. All submittals shall be accompanied by Government-furnished submittal form, which shall be used as the document for approving or disapproving the material.
A minimum of three copies of data shall be submitted to allow the Government to retain two copies.
D. Make all submittals of data, items, materials, and samples to allow the
Government ten (10) working days to review. Resubmittals will require an additional ten (10) working days to review for each resubmittal. The Contractor shall program review time into the Construction schedule. All submittals shall be approved prior to the use or installation of items specified as requiring submittals.
Submit in sufficient detail to ensure conformity with contract requirements and specifications.
1.02 CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS SCHEDULE
A. Submit construction schedule for approval within 15 days after Notice to Proceed, including the following:
1. Breakdown of work activities by construction phase and in categories, as necessary, to allow monitoring of work progress during construction.
2. Sequence of construction by construction phase and activity with start dates, duration, and finish dates.
3. Percentage of the contract price of individual work activities.
1.03 SHOP DRAWINGS AND MANUFACTURER'S LITERATURE
A. Prior to the use or installation of any item specified as requiring submittal, the Contractor shall submit and get approval of manufacturer's literature and shop drawings fully describing the items.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS SUBMITTALS

B. Shop drawings used at the site must bear approval stamp of the Contracting
Officer.
1.04 RECORD DRAWINGS
A. Provide and maintain at the project site, one complete set of project drawings.
The drawings shall be kept in good, clean, and readable condition.
B. The project drawings shall have neatly inscribed all changes in work in sufficient detail and clarity. Changes shall be noted with red pencil or red ink.
C. Submit these corrected drawings at time of final acceptance and prior to final payment.
1.05 GUARANTEES, WARRANTIES, AND CERTIFICATES
A. Submit all guarantees, warranties, and certificates prior to final payment. Refer to Section, "Warranty of Construction" and Section 01700.
1.06 TEST AND COMPLIANCE STANDARDS
A. The Contractor shall submit copies of tests or compliance standards as required in each Division.
B. Make all submittals of test data immediately after test was performed.
1.09 SUBMITTAL LIST
A. Submittals are required on the items as listed individually in each section of the specifications. The description of the submittal data required is defined in the technical specifications.

DIVISION 1 SECTION 01700
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS PROJECT CLOSEOUT

1.01 FINAL INSPECTION
A. The Contractor shall request a final inspection in writing at least ten (10) days prior to the anticipated date of completion.
B. Work will not be considered ready for final inspection until all the work has been completed and the Contractor has certified that all items are properly operating and in strict compliance with all contract terms and conditions.
C. The Contractor or his project supervisor shall be at the jobsite during the final inspection.
1.02 CLEANUP
A. The Contractor shall clean the site and remove from the site all construction debris.
1.03 SUBMITTAL
A. Submit all written guarantees, warranties, and certificates required under Section 01300 to the Contracting Officer prior to final payment.
1. Guarantees shall extend the full period of the required guarantee period after:
a. Replacement of work found defective during guarantee period.
b. Repair of inoperative items or adjustments to proper working condition of items not operating properly at time of inspection at final completion.
B. Refer to technical specifications (Division 2) for special requirements affecting the submission of all instructions and other information required. Submit all information required prior to final payment.
C. Prior to final payment, submit required record drawings to Contracting Officer.
Refer to Section 01300.

D. Submit reports of all tests to the Contracting Officer prior to final payment.
1.04 DAMAGE TO EXISTING FACILITIES
A. Prior to final acceptance by the Government, the Contractor shall repair or otherwise return to original condition any parts of the existing facilities which have been damaged during construction.

PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.
1.2 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: For each type of valve indicated. Include flow and pressure drop curves based on manufacturer's testing.
1.3 COORDINATION
A. Coordinate layout and installation of hydronic piping and suspension system components with other construction, including light fixtures, HVAC equipment, fire-suppression-system components, and partition assemblies.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.2 PIPING MATERIALS
A. General: Refer to Part 3 "Piping Applications" Article for applications of pipe and fitting materials.
2.3 COPPER TUBE AND FITTINGS
A. Drawn-Temper Copper Tubing: ASTM B 88, Type L.
B. Wrought-Copper Fittings: ASME B16.22.
C. Wrought-Copper Unions: ASME B16.22.
D. Solder Filler Metals: ASTM B 32, 95-5 tin antimony.
2.4 STEEL PIPE AND FITTINGS
A. Gasket Material: Thickness, material, and type suitable for fluid to be handled;
and design temperatures and pressures.
2.5 VALVES
A. Pressure-Reducing Valves: Diaphragm-operated, bronze or brass body with low inlet pressure check valve, inlet strainer removable without system shutdown, and noncorrosive valve seat and stem. Select valve size, capacity, and operating pressure to suit system. Valve shall be factory set at operating pressure and have capability for field adjustment.
B. Ball valves, two piece, bronze body, full port, lever handle, plated brass ball, PTFE ball disc packing, 600 WOG, solder or threaded ends.
2.6 HYDRONIC SPECIALTIES
A. Manual Air Vent: Bronze body and nonferrous internal parts; 150-psig working pressure; 225 deg F operating temperature; manually operated with screwdriver or thumbscrew; with NPS 1/8 discharge connection and NPS 1/2 inlet connection.
B. Automatic Air Vent: Designed to vent automatically with float principle; bronze body and nonferrous internal parts; 150-psig working pressure; 240 deg F operating temperature; with NPS 1/4 discharge connection and NPS 1/2 inlet connection.

C. Air Elimination Fittings: One-piece cast iron with an integral weir designed to decelerate system flow to maximize air separation at a working pressure up to 175 psig and liquid temperature up to 300 deg F.
2.7 PIPE INSULATION
A. Insulate heating water piping with 1-1/2 inch, minimum conductivity range 0.25 to
0.29 thick pre-formed, fiberglass, pipe insulation. Insulate fittings with fiberglass blanket insulation and cover with PVC filling covers.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PIPING APPLICATIONS
A. Heating Water, 2-inch and Smaller: Use Type L drawn-temper copper tubing with soldered joints.
B. Condensate Drain Lines: Type L drawn-temper copper tubing with soldere joints.
3.2 VALVE APPLICATIONS
A. General-Duty Valve Applications: Unless otherwise indicated, use the following valve types:
1. Shutoff Duty: Ball valves.
3.3 PIPING INSTALLATIONS
A. Install drains, consisting of a tee fitting, NPS 3/4" ball valve, and short NPS 3/4" threaded nipple with cap, at low points in piping system mains and elsewhere as required for system drainage.
B. Reduce pipe sizes using eccentric reducer fitting installed with level side up.
3.4 HANGERS AND SUPPORTS
A. Install the following pipe attachments:
1. Adjustable steel clevis hangers for individual horizontal piping less than 20 feet long.
B. Install hangers for drawn-temper copper piping with the following maximum
15181 − 4 spacing and minimum rod sizes:
1. NPS 3/4": Maximum span, 5 feet (1.5 m); minimum rod size, 1/4 inch (6.4 mm).
2. NPS 1": Maximum span, 6 feet (1.8 m); minimum rod size, 1/4 inch (6.4 mm).
3. NPS 1-1/2": Maximum span, 8 feet (2.4 m); minimum rod size, 3/8 inch (10 mm).
4. NPS 2": Maximum span, 8 feet (2.4 m); minimum rod size, 3/8 inch (10 mm).
3.5 HYDRONIC SPECIALTIES INSTALLATION
A. Install manual air vents at high points in piping, at heat-transfer coils, and elsewhere as required for system air venting.
B. Install in-line air separators in pump suction lines. Install piping to compression tank with a 2 percent upward slope toward tank.
C. Install expansion tanks on floor. Vent and purge air from hydronic system, and ensure tank is properly charged with air to suit system design requirements.
3.6 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Prepare hydronic piping as follows:
1. Leave joints, including welds, uninsulated and exposed for examination during test.
2. Flush system with clean water. Clean strainers.
3. Isolate equipment from piping. If a valve is used to isolate equipment, its closure shall be capable of sealing against test pressure without damage to valve.
4. Install safety valve, set at a pressure no more than one-third higher than test pressure, to protect against damage by expanding liquid or other source of overpressure during test.
B. Perform the following tests on hydronic piping:
1. Use ambient temperature water as a testing medium unless there is risk of damage due to freezing. Another liquid that is safe for workers and compatible with piping may be used.
2. While filling system, use vents installed at high points of system to release trapped air. Use drains installed at low points for complete draining of liquid.
3. Check expansion tanks to determine that they are not air bound and that system
15181 − 5 is full of water.
4. Subject piping system to hydrostatic test pressure of 50 psig. Test pressure shall not exceed maximum pressure for any vessel, pump, valve, or other component in system under test.
5. After hydrostatic test pressure has been applied for at least 10 minutes, examine piping, joints, and connections for leakage. Eliminate leaks by tightening, repairing, or replacing components, and repeat hydrostatic test until there are no leaks.
6. Prepare written report of testing.
3.7 ADJUSTING
A. Mark calibrated nameplates of pump discharge valves and balancing valves after hydronic system balancing has been completed, to permanently indicate final balanced position.
B. Perform these adjustments before operating the system:
1. Open valves to fully open position. Close coil bypass valves.

3.1 PIPING INSTALLATION
A. Drips and Sediment Traps: Install drips at points where condensate may collect.
Include outlets of service meters. Locate where readily accessible for cleaning and emptying. Do not install where condensate would be subject to freezing.
1. Construct drips and sediment traps using tee fitting with bottom outlet plugged or capped. Use minimum-length nipple of 3 pipe diameters, but not less than 3 inches long, and same size as connected pipe. Install with space between bottom of drip and floor for removal of plug or cap.
B. Install fuel gas piping at uniform grade of 0.1 percent slope upward toward risers.
C. Use eccentric reducer fittings to make reductions in pipe sizes. Install fittings with level side down.
D. Connect branch piping from top or side of horizontal piping.
E. Install unions in pipes NPS 2" and smaller, adjacent to each valve, at final connection to each piece of equipment, and elsewhere as indicated. Unions are not required on flanged devices.

MANUFACTURERS

Hydrotherm Inc. is the basis of design. Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering boilers that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

B. Design: Boilers shall be CSA design certified as a condensing boiler. Boilers shall be designed for a minimum of 5:1 continuous turn down with constant CO2 over the turndown range. The boiler shall operate with natural gas or propane and have a CSA International certified input rating as noted on the drawings, and a thermal efficiency rating up to 99% at minimum input. The boiler shall be symmetrically air-fuel coupled such that changes in combustion air flow or flue flows affect the BTUH input without affecting combustion quality. The boiler will automatically adjust input for altitude and temperature induced changes in air density. The boiler will use a proven pilot interrupted spark ignition system. The boiler shall use a UL approved flame safeguard ignition control system using UV detection flame sensing. The UV detector shall be air cooled to prevent condensate formation and so designed as to prevent misalignment. The design shall provide for silent burner ignition and operation. The boiler shall be down fired counter flow such that formed condensate always moves toward a cooler zone to prevent re-evaporation.
An aluminum corrosion resistant condensate drain designed to prevent pooling and accessible condensate trap shall be provided. In some jurisdictions, a means of neutralizing the condensate Ph levels may be required. Boiler shall be able to vent a horizontal distance of 80 equivalent feet with a vent diameter equivalent to the combustion chamber outlet diameter.
C. Service Access: The boilers shall be provided with access covers for easily accessing all serviceable components.
D. Indicating lights: Each boiler shall include a diagnostic control panel with a full text display indicating the condition of all interlocks and the BTUH input percentage. Access to the controls shall be through a completely removable cover
15513 - 4 leaving diagnostic panel intact and not disrupted.
2.6 COMPONENTS
A. Combustion Chamber: The combustion chamber shall be constructed of cast iron.
It shall be a down-fired design utilizing lightweight refractory around the burner housing.
B. Heat Exchanger: Boilers shall be a cast iron sectional unit designed for pressure firing and shall be constructed and tested for 100 P.S.I water working pressure, in accordance with the A.S.M.E. Section IV Rules for the Construction of Heating Boilers. Individual sections will have been subjected to a hydrostatic pressure test of 250 PSIG at the factory before shipment and they shall be marked, stamped or cast with the A.S.M.E. Code symbol. Boilers with less than 250-psi pressure test will not be acceptable for this project. The sections shall be of a down fired counter flow single-pass design. Water ports will be sealed with steel push nipple connectors. The sections will be fully machined for metal to metal sealing of the gas side surfaces. The design will provide for equal temperature rise through all sections. The iron shall have a minimum thickness of ¼". The heat exchanger design should have no limitations on temperature rise or restrictions to inlet water temperature and a Cv of 60.
C. Jackets: Stainless Steel.
D. Gas Burner: The burner shall be metal fiber mesh construction, allowing high turndown of the fuel-air mixture. The burner flame shall burn horizontally and be of the pre-mix type with a forced draft fan. Burner shall fire to provide equal distribution of heat throughout the entire heat exchanger. The burner shall be easily removed for maintenance without the disruption of any other major component of the boiler. A window view port shall be provided for visual inspection of the boiler during firing. The gas distribution components and burner shall be enclosed with a cast- aluminum housing.
E. Ignition components: The ignition hardware shall consist of Alumina ceramic insulated ignition electrodes and UV sensing tube permanently arranged to ensure proper ignition electrode and UV alignment.
F. Rated Capacity: The boiler shall be capable of operating at rated capacity with pressures as low as 3" W.C. at the inlet to the burner gas valve.
G. The burner shall be capable of 99% efficiency without exceeding a NOx reading above 11ppm.
H. The burner and gas train shall be provided with the following trim and features:

1. Burner Firing: Full modulation with 5:1 turndown @ Continuous CO2
2. Burner Ignition: Intermittent spark
3. Safety Controls: Energize ignition, limit time for establishing flame, prevent opening of gas valve until pilot flame is proven, stop gas flow on ignition failure, and allow gas valve to open.
4. Flue-Gas Collector: Enclosed combustion chamber with integral combustion-air blower and single venting connection.
5. Gas Train: Manual ball type gas valves (2), main gas valve, manual leak test valve, pilot gas pressure regulator, and automatic pilot gas valve. All components to be factory mounted and CSD-1 compliant.
6. Safety Devices: Low gas pressure switch, air-flow switch, and blocked flue detection switch, low water cutoff (manual reset), high temperature manual reset.
All safeties to be factory mounted.
2.7 BOILER TRIM
A. Controls: The boiler control package shall be a MTI HeatNet or equivalent, integrated boiler management system.
B. The Heat-Net control shall be capable of operating in the following ways:
1. As a stand-alone boiler control system using the HeatNet protocol, with one
“Master” and multiple “Member” units.
2. As a boiler network, enabled by a Building Management System (BMS), using the HeatNet protocol, with one “Master” and multiple “Member” units.

2.8 MOTORS
A. Boiler Blower Motor: Blower motor shall be externally mounted for ease of service.
There shall be no requirement to remove covers or gas train components to remove the blower motor. The KN-6 Blower shall be .5 HP and FLA not to exceed 5 Amps.
2.9 SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL
A. Test and inspect boilers according to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section IV. Boilers shall be test fired in the factory with a report attached
15513 - 9 permanently to the exterior cabinet of the boiler for field reference.
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine area to receive boiler for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting boiler performance. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 INSTALLATION
A. Install boilers level and plumb, according to manufacturer's written instructions and referenced standards.
B. Install gas-fired boilers according to NFPA 54.
C. Support boilers on 4-inch- (100-mm-) thick concrete base, 4 inches larger on each side than base of unit re-use / modify existing as required.
D. Assemble units and parts shipped loose or disassembled.
E. Install electrical devices furnished with boiler, but not specified to be factory mounted.
3.3 CONNECTIONS
A. Connect gas piping full size to boiler gas-train inlet with union.
B. Connect air-intake and exhaust piping to boiler, size as recommended by manufacturer. Use Schedule 40 CPVC pipe and fittings for exhaust, PVC for supply, with solvent-cemented joints. Pitch toward boiler minimum of 2 percent or as indicated. Provide termination as indicated.
C. Connect hot-water piping to supply- and return-boiler tappings with shutoff valve and union or flange at each connection.
3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Manufacturer's Field Service: Engage a factory-authorized service representative to supervise the field assembly of components and installation of boilers, including piping and electrical connections. Report results in writing.
1. Test and adjust controls and safeties. Replace damaged and malfunctioning controls and equipment.
B. Hydrostatically test assembled boiler and piping, according to applicable sections of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
3.5 CLEANING
A. Flush and clean boilers on completion of installation, according to manufacturer's written instructions.
B. After completing boiler installation, including outlet fittings and devices, inspect exposed finish. Remove burrs, dirt, and construction debris and repair damaged finishes including chips, scratches, and abrasions with manufacturer's touchup paint.
3.6 COMMISSIONING
A. Engage a factory-authorized service representative to provide startup service.
B. Verify that installation is as indicated and specified.
1. Verify that electrical wiring installation complies with manufacturer's submittal and installation requirements in Division 16 Sections. Do not proceed with boiler startup until wiring installation is acceptable to equipment Installer.
C. Complete manufacturer's installation and startup checklist and verify the following:
1. Boiler is level on concrete base.
2. Flue and chimney are installed without visible damage.
3. No damage is visible to boiler jacket, refractory, or combustion chamber.
4. Pressure-reducing valves are checked for correct operation and specified relief pressure. Adjust as required.

5. Clearances have been provided and piping is flanged for easy removal and servicing.
6. Heating circuit pipes have been connected to correct ports.
7. Labels are clearly visible.
8. Boiler, burner, and flue are clean and free of construction debris.
9. Pressure and temperature gages are installed.
10. Control installations are completed.
D. Ensure pumps operate properly.
E. Check operation of pressure-reducing valve on gas train, including venting.
F. Check that fluid-level, flow-switch, and high-temperature interlocks are in place.
G. Start pumps and boilers, and adjust burners to maximum operating efficiency.
1. Fill out startup checklist and attach copy with Contractor Startup Report.
2. Check and record performance of factory-provided boiler protection devices and firing sequences.
3. Check and record performance of boiler fluid-level, flow-switch, and high-temperature interlocks.
4. Run-in boilers as recommended or required by manufacturer.
5. Measure and record gas pressure on manifold.
6. Measure and record combustion-air temperature at inlet to burner.
7. Measure and record flue-gas temperature at boiler discharge.
H. Measure and record water flow rate, pressure drops, and temperature rise through boiler.
I. Inspect expansion tank, makeup water meter, tank pressure, pressure-reducing valve, water level, and backflow preventer.
3.7 DEMONSTRATION
A. Engage a factory-authorized service representative to train Owner's maintenance personnel as specified below:
1. Operate boiler, including accessories and controls, to demonstrate compliance with requirements.
2. Train Owner's maintenance personnel on procedures and schedules related to startup and shutdown, troubleshooting, servicing, and preventive maintenance.
