1. Question: Sheet G101.0 provided for “reference only” indicated that all remaining terrazzo is to be repaired & refinished, is this work to be included in this contract scope?

Answer: Repairs to the terrazzo flooring are not required.

2. Question: Verify that reimbursement to SI for off hours work does not apply to off hours work proposed in contractor’s baseline schedule.

Answer: Any off-hours work proposed in General Contractor’s bid schedule will not require SI reimbursement.

3. Question: Can the entire project be scheduled for off hours? If so, would there be any reimbursement to SI required for security & inspection services?

Answer: Yes, the entire project can be done on off-hours. The Contractor is required to show this in their bid schedule and provide an explanation why this is the best course of action to complete this project. This should be included in the Plan of Accomplishment required in the Solicitation.

4. Question: Clarify the extent of demolition required; what is the extent of the demolition work at the building perimeter walls & windows. These items are drawn using the legend symbol for “existing elements and partitions to be removed”.

Answer: Remove all wall finishes adjacent to or applied to historic finishes as identified in documents. Exterior windows are not to be removed.

5. Question: How is the demolition of the walls abutting “historic masonry construction” to be performed without damage to these features?

Answer: Any materials to be removed that are adjacent to or attached to existing ‘historic masonry walls’ or other ‘historic fabric’ shall be removed so as to do the least amount of damage possible to the historic fabric.

6. Question: Clarify the extent of demolition required at the East & West Towers. These items are drawn using the legend symbol for “existing elements and partitions to be removed”. Key Note #1 indicates that temporary doors are to be installed, does this included construction of temporary walls similar to those required by Key Note #7?

Answer: There is no demolition scheduled for the East and West Towers. The temporary doorway designated in the East Tower is the only exception. The guidelines for the temporary door are as follows:

• Temporary doors and walls to be wood products per the specifications. Width and height of doors shall be sized to accommodate demolition equipment but the pair shall not be less than 6 feet wide and 8 feet high.

• WALL: ½” FRT plywood (interior side of wall), FRT wood studs, R-19 batt insulation and 5/8” FRT T&G plywood on the exterior face. Seal all joints and paint all surfaces.

• DOORS: Assembly similar to wall. Provide exterior lockset and deadbolt (thumb turn on interior) on the active leaf with ADA compliant lever. Include flush bolts at the top and bottom edges of the inactive leaf. Key per SI standards.

7. Question: Is there any fire rating requirement for the EPS insulation? Provide ASTM specification & density requirement for this material.

Answer: The EPS insulation cannot be left exposed after installation, it must be covered 100% by FRT plywood. Refer to Volume 1 of 2 Specification Section 01760 2.1 A. 1. for ASTM information as it relates to the EPS insulation.

16. Question: Can you provide the heights required for protection Type E at the columns where the protection is shown partial height?

Answer: The height of Type E protection is intended to be at least 18 inches above the height of adjacent equipment/construction being removed. The minimum height shall be 8’-0”.

17. Question: Demolition options 4 & 5 and 6 & 7 have areas of overlap both of which appear to include removal of the same walls. How are we to account for this in our option pricing?

Answer: These areas do not overlap. The limits of the option areas are defined by the structural walls that outline these areas. For example, the NW court’s four walls are on column lines 6, 11, K and F. Price the side of the wall facing the space. The pricing for the opposite face of the wall is to be included in the adjacent area/option.

18. Question: Is there any requirement for restoration of adjacent finishes after demolition of abutting elements?

Answer: No.

20. Question: Does the General Requirements paragraph 14.7 pertain to this project since all the work is confined to unoccupied space?

Answer: Paragraph 14.7 in the General Requirements does not stipulate whether or not the building is occupied. The temporary protection plan has taken into consideration pathways in and out of the building. If the Contractor’s plan will require an unidentified area containing exposed historic flooring to be accessed, this specification section would be applicable.

21. Question: Is Section 01524 paragraph 1.3A regarding the salvage/recycling percentage relevant to this contract?
