About this file

This is a Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) form issued by the Department of the Army for Installation Kits with Code Ident 80063 and SPI Number AG00000621, dated 15113. The document specifies detailed preservation, packing, marking, and material handling requirements for multiple National Stock Numbers.

The SPI mandates specific preservation methods for various component types: technical literature using Method 31; brackets and bracket mountings per MIL-STD-2073-1 code 10-1-00-CA-NA-B-ED with cushioning on sharp corners only; cable assemblies coiled and preserved using Method 31 with ¼" cushioning material per PPP-B-795; connectors per MIL-DTL-55330; circuit card assemblies and printed circuit boards per CECOM SPI AG00000601; electrostatic discharge sensitive components using MIL-STD-2073-1 code "GX"; non-ESDS electronic components using Method 41; hazardous materials using code "HM"; hoses per MIL-H-775; and mechanical parts based on material composition. Consolidation follows two packing levels: Level A requires a wood cleated plywood box per ASTM D6251 with fiberboard sleeves and materials per ASTM D4727 or PPP-C-1797, closed with zinc coated nails; Level B requires a fiberboard box per ASTM D5118 or triple wall per ASTM D5168 with appropriate cushioning and sealing per ASTM D1974 or D5168. All marking must comply with MIL-STD-129, with inner packagings identified and hazardous materials labeled per regulatory documents. All shipments utilizing wood packaging material must meet International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures ISPM-15 requirements.

2.1.1 Level A. Place all components into a close-fitting wood cleated plywood box conforming to ASTM D6251, type III, class 2, style A. Ensure that the technical literature is placed on top. Use fiberboard sleeves or pieces conforming to ASTM D4727 to separate the items, as required. Place heavier components in the bottom of the box. Cushion and brace as necessary to prevent excessive movement within box, using materials conforming to ASTM

D4727, PPP-C-795, or PPP-C-1797. Close the box with zinc coated nails in accordance with ASTM D6251.

2.1.2 Level B. Place all components into an appropriately sized fiberboard box conforming to ASTM D5118, Style RSC, Grade W5c. If the weight limitation of a fiberboard box is exceeded, use a triple wall fiberboard box conforming to ASTM D5168. Ensure that the technical literature is placed on top. Place heavier components in the bottom of the box. Cushion and brace as necessary to prevent excessive movement within box using materials conforming to ASTM D

4727, PPP-C-795, or PPP-C-1797. Close the box in accordance with ASTM D1974 or ASTM D5168, as appropriate. In some cases, the unit pack may be used as the shipping container for individual components. If the unit pack is also the shipping container, close and seal the box in accordance with ASTM D1974 sealing method B or C.

3. Marking. Marking shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-129. Ensure all inner packagings are marked to identify their contents. Ensure all HAZMAT are marked and labeled in accordance with the appropriate regulatory documents.
