2.6 miles of existing road as indicated Exhibit B Table 1. Drainage dips, culverts and rubber flappers shall be maintained as described in Exhibit B-1 of this contract.

2. Pre-haul blading will reshape the existing road, re-establishing ditches where present, and in-sloping and out-sloping the existing road to provide drainage.

3. Culvert maintenance will include clearing ditches, catch basins and outlets as needed to maintain proper function. All haul roads will meet MT BMP for Forestry prior to log hauling.

4. Turn outs, J-holes and turn around points will be cleared and maintained at Forest

Officer’s direction.

5. Post hauling grading will be required prior to contract termination.

6. All road maintenance work shall be done to the satisfaction of, and upon completion shall be approved in writing by, the Authorized Officer.

B. BRUSHING, GRUBBING IMPROVMENT SPECIFICATIONS

1. All items described in Attachment B, Section A ROAD MAINTENANCE

SPECIFICAITONS will be performed.

2. Roadside brushing will clear all brush and sub-merchantable (0-8” DBH) trees from within clearing limits, and limb up trees >8” DBH to establish site distance and safe driving conditions.

3. Trees >8” DBH which are within the running surface or otherwise must be removed to facilitate safe travel including sight distance will be designated for removal by the

Forest Officer and will be hauled as the appropriate product as describe in Section C.

4. Slash generated during brushing will be lopped and scattered below the fill slope until target slash loading as defined is Section C is achieved. Once target slash loading is achieved, slash will be piled for burning in locations designated by the Forest Officer.

5. Rolling Drain Dips will be improved and/ or constructed at an interval of 1000’ or as directed by the Forest Officer.

6. Clearing of all ingrowth into the running surface as well as clearing limits will include removal of stumps and root balls from the running surface.

7. Grubbing will be accomplished using a tracked excavator or backhoe as approved by the Authorized Officer.

C. MAINENANCE 2 LANES, SPOT BRUSHING SPECIFICATIONS

1. All items described in Attachment B, Section A ROAD MAINTENANCE

SPECIFICAITONS will be performed.

2. The full running surface of the road will be maintained, average width of 24’.

8. At locations specified by the Forest Officer, all items described in Attachment B, Section B BRUSHING, MAINTENANCE SPECIFICAITONS will be performed.

2. Clear bridge decking of all accumulated soil and vegetation.

3. Improve dips on each side of bridge to direct water off road prior to bridge.

4. Reshape crown of road between dips and bridge to shed and direct water off the road rather than onto the bridge surface.

E. 36” x 20’ CMP INSTALL SPECIFICATION

1. One 36” x 20’Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP) will be installed as indicated on the

Exhibit A-3 and as Directed by the Authorized Officer. This pipe is located at the

Missoula BLM office.

2. A catch basin is already present, light shrub clearing will be needed but not full excavation.

3. Layers of material 6” in depth and free of large rocks (>3”) will be back filled on top of the CMP after placement and compacted. Two layers or no less than 12” compacted material will be placed on the CMP to return the road surface to pre-installation elevation.

4. All exposed soils will be spread with Native Seed Mix specified in Section C.

5. Install culvert at a very low grade (almost flat) to keep uphill pond intact.

6. CMP installation will be accomplished using a tracked excavator or backhoe as approved by the Authorized Officer.

7. A slash filter windrow approximately 2’ ( two feet) x 8’ (eight feet) will be constructed over the CMP outlet.

8. The Forest Officer will be notified at least three days prior to CMP installation.

9. Post treatment, the CMP will be removed and returned to the Missoula Field Office.

10. Following CMP removal, add large rocks to stabilize channel to help reduce risk of bank and stream bed erosion. This will be approved by the authorized officer.

F. Clearing and Grubbing:

1. Clear ALL trees and brush within the top of the cut slope to the bottom of the fill slope.

Stumps will not exceed 6 inches in cut and fill slope .

2. Grub within road bed. Grub deep enough to remove all stumps, roots, or other vegetative debris. Back fill all grubbing holes to level the road surface.

3. Limb live trees outside of the cut and fill slope if limbs are over the road surface. Limb

12 feet above road surface.

4. Saw‐log quality consists of the following material: those trees not reserved that are 8 inches diameter at breast height outside bark (dbhob) or greater with a minimum length of 16.5 feet to a minimum top end diameter of 5.6 inches diameter inside bark (dib) and a minimum of 1/3 sound wood. Material pricing will be the same as bid item 0003A and

0003B. Saw material is required to be removed. Non- Saw material is optional removal.

Landings will be approved by authorized officer.

5. Landings will be approved by authorized officer. Place and construct piles so that if the piles are burned, the burning will not damage remaining trees. Keep piles free of dirt from stumps. Landings will be seeded when done using.

6. Unutilized material will be disposed of by:

a. Windrowing- Place construction slash outside the roadway in neat, compacted windrows approximately parallel to and along the toe line of embankment slopes.

Do not permit the top of the windrows to extend above subgrade. Use construction equipment to matt down all material in a windrow to form a compact and uniform pile. Construct breaks of at least 15 feet at least every 200 feet in a windrow. Do not place windrows against trees.

b. Scattering- Scatter construction slash in designated areas without damaging trees.

Limb all logs. Place logs and stumps away from trees, positioned so they will not roll, and are not on top of one another. Limb and scatter other construction slash to reduce slash concentrations. When scattering for erosion control, place construction slash as flat as practicable on the completed slope. Slash shall be bucked to 4' and lopped below 18" both to meet MT slash reduction law and forest insect hazards. Continuous slash mat of more than 12” must be piled for burning by Government.

c. Chipping- Use an approved chipping machine to chip slash longer than 3 feet.

Deposit chips on embankment slopes or outside the roadway to a loose depth less than 6 inches. Minor amounts of chips or ground woody material may be permitted within the roadway if they are thoroughly mixed with soil and do not form a layer.
