About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory's (FNAL) procurement of 72 WR1150 waveguide sections for a new linear accelerator (linac) project. The waveguide sections are specifically for the 650 MHz portion of the linac, with each 236.2-inch long section composed of two straight pieces and a removable gasket. Key technical requirements include operating at 650 MHz ±5 MHz, handling 70kW continuous wave power, using CPRF WR1150 flanges, being made of aluminum with a RoHS-compliant chemical conversion finish, and capable of withstanding up to 2 psig internal pressure.
The contract requires delivery within 20 weeks of purchase order issuance, with a kickoff meeting to be held within 2 weeks of contract award. Bidders must provide an itemized list of costs for the waveguide sections, and FNAL reserves the right to accept bids for partial quantities. Quality control plans must be submitted prior to production, and a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects is required. Shipping instructions mandate protective packaging, individual labeling of each item with a serial number and measured length, and a certificate of conformance to be sent before shipment.

1. INTRODUCTION
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL) is building a new linear accelerator (linac) to improve its capabilities for high energy particle physics research. The linac will accelerate ionized protons using superconducting, resonant cavities distributed throughout an underground tunnel. The cavities are tuned to three frequencies: 162.5 MHz, 325 MHz, and 650 MHz. Figure 1 shows an illustration of the full linac and a blown-up image of the different modules that contain the cavities. This procurement pertains only the 650MHz section.
Figure 1 - Shows the arrangement of the different styles of cavities in the beamline. There are 72 cavities in the 650MHz section
Each cavity receives its power from a dedicated RF amplifier through its own distribution system. The 650MHz distribution system consists of WR1150 waveguide, flexible sections, directional couplers, circulators, gas seals, gas ports and gas barriers. Figure 2 shows illustrations of how the RF amplifiers connect to the LB650 cavities and their waveguide components.

Figure 2: Simple RF distribution system
The distribution system starts upstairs in the gallery, then runs underground into the RF trench, then runs through a horizontal penetration to the tunnel, shown in Figure 3. The horizontal penetration is a galvanized steel, humidity-controlled enclosure that is buried underground between the RF trench and the tunnel.

2. SCOPE AND DELIVERABLES
The scope of this procurement is for the 72 sections of WR1150 waveguide that fill the horizontal penetrations. Figure 4 shows an example.
To span the distance and allow for access to the exterior flanges, each WR1150 line will be 236.2” in length.
This will be composed of 2 straight sections and one removable gasket. Figure 5 shows the dimensions of the line.
