Ft. Riley 1ID CGMCG Farrier Services Solicitation

W911RX-25-Q-0010

Questions from Industry Question #1: Can you advise if you are looking for a Farrier to train someone at your facility or are you requesting services be done?

Answer #1: Please refer to the Performance Work Statement for a detailed breakdown of the requested services.

Question #2: Also, is there a current/previous incumbent in this role? If so, please provide vendor name, award number and award amount/contract term.

Answer #2: Current Contractor is Macy, Carey. 05/01/2019-10/31/2024 (Base +4 w/6mo extension), $294,500.00, W911RX-19-P-0019.

Question #3: Regarding the evaluation of offerors, it states past performance. Are you asking for at least 2-3 business references or details on a specific job the farrier has done?

Answer #3: We are looking for recent/relevant past performance. I.E. contracts for the same or similar services. Any certifications, years of experience, and specialized skills will also be considered.

Question #4: Will you extend the due date at all to allow companies to respond?

Answer #4: Unfortunately, due to the time constraints we will be unable to extend the closing date of the solicitation.

Question #5: The eight (8) hours requested for training, is that separate from the four (4) for farrier services or can they be combined while working/training on a horse?

Answer #5: Due to the nature of Farrier work, it is expected that training of the Farrier Shop Soldiers can take place while working on the horse(s), simultaneously.

Question #6: Can you give a detailed outline of how you would like for the eight hours training and four hours of service to be executed properly. For example, can the eight-hour training be done in a single day? Is the training just for equine soldiers or for human personnel as well?

Ft. Riley 1ID CGMCG Farrier Services Solicitation

W911RX-25-Q-0010

Questions from Industry Answer #6: Farrier Shop Soldiers are required to utilize the provided textbook, Chris Gregory’s textbook of Farriery, to accompany lessons from the Farrier. They will have a firm understanding of anatomy and shop procedures before progressing to trimming equine back feet while under the continuous supervision and direction of the Farrier. Soldiers will graduate to trimming a foot to receive a shoe, then shoeing. The Farrier is responsible for the lesson plan, progression plan, skill assessment of Soldiers, and written evaluations.

Soldiers determined to be “advanced” by the Farrier will still be evaluated continuously as to not lose any skills or knowledge. Training is only for the Soldiers of the CGMCG unit, and not for civilians. Hours can be organized as needed, if PWS is met.
