About this file
This is a technical specifications document from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) for the R1 Synthetic Ivy Pilot project, which involves installing synthetic ivy on existing sound walls at three highway locations. The project requires installation of Turf & Ivy Solutions Simplico Ivy or approved equal at: I5 SB MP 298.19-298.10 (430 LF), I405 5th St Entrance Ramp SB MP 0.67-0.72 (350 LF), and I84 EB MP 2.08-2.20 (500 LF). The synthetic ivy must be installed on the lower 7 feet of selected walls, with completion required by March 30, 2025 and substantial completion by March 15, 2025. The contractor must be certified by the manufacturer and provide monthly maintenance service including inspections, repairs, and debris removal.
The technical requirements specify the synthetic ivy must use 100% recycled Low-Density Polyethylene Resin, ESK-NHF synthetic flame retardant, UV blocking chemicals, and high strength grid and leaf clusters with a minimum 3-year expected life. Traffic control requirements include specific lane closure restrictions: I5 shoulder closures allowed 7:00 am to 7:00 pm daily, I405 single lane closures 9:00 am to 2:00 pm daily, and I84 right shoulder closures 9:00 am to 2:00 pm daily. The contractor must submit traffic control plans and maintain pedestrian accessibility throughout construction. Special provisions require coordination with ODOT for any camp clean-up needed before or during construction.

Updated 11/9/2020
Region 1 Maintenance Guidelines for Pavement Restoration or Defective Work
This guideline applies anytime the asphalt saw cut does not fall at a lane line, striping is removed and not replaced in the same location or when defective paving has to be replaced.
Base Objective: Motorist cannot feel the repaired pavement. Prolong the working life of the asphalt pavement and reduce future maintenance costs.
Repair Guidelines:
1. Pavement condition new or like new (1‐3 years old): Complete a 2” grind and inlay with the same Level of ACP required in the contract (Level 3 minimum) for an area that covers the entire lane width of every lane affected by 100 foot long. The length to be centered on the defective/saw cut area if the defective area is small. If the area is larger than 100 feet then complete a 2” grind and inlay with the same Level of ACP required in the contract for an area that covers the entire lane width of every lane affected by the entire length of the defective/saw cut area.
2. Pavement condition anything less than new (3 years or older): Complete a 2” grind and inlay with the same Level of ACP required in the contract (Level 3 minimum) for an area that covers the entire lane width of every lane affected by 50 foot long. The length to be centered on the defective/saw cut area if the defective area is small. If the area is larger than 50 feet then complete a 2” grind and inlay with the same Level of ACP required in the contract for an area that covers the entire lane width of every lane affected by the entire length of the defective area.
3. When there are several smaller areas that are within a short distance of each other complete one continuous repair.
4. The District Manager or their designated representative will determine the limits of the repair based on these guidelines.
