About this file
This document is a photographic and technical scope-of-work reference file for a federal repair project at Building 8401, PX (Exchange facility).
The project, designated BMH-EXC-B0519-6P, requires comprehensive repairs and modifications to doors and associated infrastructure to achieve NFPA 101 Life Safety Code compliance. Key scope items include: (1) modification of approximately 36 numbered escape and emergency exit doors to eliminate lockable mechanisms that currently violate fire safety codes; (2) installation of a new gate with integrated pedestrian door (Schlupftür) at the north delivery entrance to replace an existing non-compliant gate; (3) construction of walkways and trench covers on the north side with proper pavement heights to eliminate steps at emergency exits; (4) replacement of a deteriorated exterior stair structure at door #12 with a temporary modular stair system requiring structural calculations; (5) closure of a large opening (approximately 3.0m x 2.2m) in the Human Resources office with masonry; (6) enhancement of the fire alarm detection system with additional smoke detectors for complete room coverage; (7) installation of fire-rated drywall with a door enclosure around the fire alarm system location; (8) sealing of cable and utility penetrations through stairwell and fire-rated walls, with replacement of damaged ceiling tiles; (9) modification of door #29 locking hardware to provide fire department emergency access; (10) plaster and paint repairs at multiple locations; and (11) closure of ceiling openings to the attic space. A certified designer is required to prepare construction documents. All work must comply with NFPA 101 requirements and federal building safety standards. Site documentation includes floor plans with marked penetration locations and photographic evidence of current conditions requiring remediation.
