STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Background:

The requirement is to provide the following:

· A. Service agreement for the maintenance and repair of an EVOS FL Auto microscope with microincubator mounted on the microscope stage.

· The instrument is a very sophisticated device that permits researchers to visualize and take pictures of cells and tissues stained with chemicals or antibodies using bright field and fluorescence microscopy. The microscope has several automated functions including autofocusing and the ability to stitch together images from multiple fields. The latter function requires computer control of a motor-operated stage that moves the specimen in 3 dimensions to acquire the desired images. The microscope is also equipped with a small cell culture incubator that is able to maintain cell cultures at desired temperatures in humidified air with a mix of gasses such as 95% air and 5% carbon dioxide, a mixture often used in cell culture systems.

· The instrument uses proprietary software and technologies to accomplish these various functions. The continued operation of the instrument within manufacturer’s specifications is required for successful completion of ongoing VA, DOD, NIH and NYS-funded research. As this is the only microscope of its type at JJPVA ongoing research would be slowed or stopped while waiting for repairs should it cease to function. The microscope is an expensive piece of delicate laboratory equipment and repairs off service agreement could be quite expensive. We therefore are requesting a service agreement that provides for periodic maintenance on at least an annual basis and which provides onsite repair should a malfunction occur.

2. Objectives:

The goal of the requirement is to obtain a service agreement to provide annual maintenance and onsite repair as needed for an EVOS FL Auto microscope with incubator located in the Research Building at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center.
