About this file

This document presents the technical specifications for Level III Ballistic Shields required by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department SWAT team in Ohio. The shields must be generally rectangular in shape, measuring between 21" to 23" wide by 36" to 38" long, with a maximum total weight of 25 pounds including viewport and light. Each shield must feature a see-through ballistic viewport measuring at least 2.5" high by 8.5" wide, an integrated LED light with a minimum of 1100 lumens offering off/on/strobe options, a hard/solid primary handle system, forearm padding on the backside, and a transport bag for protection during storage. The shields must meet or exceed NIJ Level III Ballistic Shield Standards and demonstrate capability against specific threat rounds including 7.62mm X 51mm (M80), 7.62mm X 39mm PS Ball (MSC), and 5.56mm X 45mm (M193), with maximum thickness not exceeding 0.5 inches excluding the viewport and light components.

Additional requirements specify that LED light controls must be securely attached to the rear side of the shield, either affixed to the handle or positioned to be reachable without releasing the operator's grip, and capable of activation with either hand. All fasteners passing through the shield must be reinforced to maintain ballistic integrity without compromising protection levels. The specification document does not include information regarding pricing, quantities, delivery timelines, award dates, contract term, or renewal options.
