About this file
This is a specification document issued by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the procurement of a Dual Furnace Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA) system. The specification details the technical and operational requirements for a TGA capable of analyzing a minimum of thirty-eight samples per run, with a heating range from ambient temperature to at least 1000°C, heating ramp rates from 1°C to 50°C per minute, and cooling capabilities from 750°C to 50°C within 75 minutes or less. The equipment must include a precision balance of 0.0002 g or better, accommodate sample weights between 1 and 5 grams, and integrate with FTIR spectrometer equipment such as the Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS50. The system must operate on 220 or 230 V, 50/60 Hz, single-phase power and support Nitrogen, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, and air as purge gases with independently controlled valves and integrated airflow sensors. The specification identifies two example manufacturers: LECO Corporation (Model TGA801-DCM) and TA Instruments (Model Discovery TGA 5500), though equivalent equipment meeting or exceeding the specifications will be considered. Delivery is required to the TxDOT Materials and Tests Division at 6230 E. Stassney Lane, Austin, TX 78744.
The vendor must provide installation, calibration, and freight charges included in the bid price, with installation to be completed by a factory-trained technician who must provide a minimum of four hours of instruction on safety, operation, and preventive maintenance at TxDOT's premises. All equipment must be new, in current production, and accompanied by certificates of origin and title. Materials must carry a warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for a minimum of twelve months covering 100% parts and labor, commencing upon TxDOT's acceptance of the equipment. The vendor is responsible for all necessary hardware, connections, cables, hoses, brackets, and accessories required for complete and safe installation and operation. Vendor performance will be monitored regularly, with unsatisfactory performance potentially resulting in negative performance reports, contract cancellation, or both, while exceptional performance may be recognized through commendations or product upgrades at no additional cost.
