About this file

This is Addendum 1 to a bid solicitation issued by Hays Consolidated Independent School District (HCISD) in Kyle, Texas for E-Rate Category 1 network equipment. The original bid number is 06-122501AS, with the initial bid opening scheduled for January 15, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. CST. The addendum revises the opening date to January 22, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. CST. The solicitation concerns Extreme switching equipment with 100G ports, 40G or 100G connectivity options, and 25G BiDi fiber optics. The district clarified that switches will not be stacked, deployment varies by location based on port requirements, and the district anticipates future port expansion as a growing school district. All vendors must acknowledge receipt of this addendum and return it with their bid submission; failure to do so will result in the offer not being considered for evaluation.

The addendum addresses technical specifications regarding Layer 3 routing architecture, confirming that HCISD runs IEEE 802.1aq (Shortest Path Bridging) on all Layer 3 connections rather than BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, multicast, or VRFs. For the 25G BiDi optics, the correct part numbers are confirmed as EXT SFP 25G BX27U33 40 SO and EXT SFP 25G BX33D27 40 SO, supplied by Solid Optics, with maximum fiber distances under 20 kilometers. Power and redundancy requirements are embedded within the extreme switch part numbers provided in the original RFP, which indicate airflow specifications. The addendum was issued by Anston Shockley, the district's buyer, on December 18, 2025.

ADDENDUM 1

DATE: 12/18/2025

BID: 06-122501AS E-Rate Category 1 Open: January 15, 2026 @ 11:00 a.m. CST

NOW OPENING: JANUARY 22, 2026 @ 11:00 a.m.

Disclaimer: HCISD reserves the right to not accept and evaluate responses that do not include a signed Addendum.

1. 100G usage and topology: Are all eight 100G ports on each Extreme switch expected to be active? How many of the 40G or 100G ports are intended to be used per switch? Also, are any of the switches planned to be deployed as stacked units or as redundant pairs? This is dependent on location. They will not be stacked, some areas might utilize more ports than others and we are a growing school district that might need other ports for future use.

2. Layer 3 requirements: Will the core be running BGP, OSPF, IS IS, multicast, and or VRFs? IEEE 802.1aq (SPB) is what we run on all our L3 connections.

3. Link distances: Can you confirm the actual fiber distances for the 25G BiDi optics?

We were unable to locate EXT SFP 25G BX27U33 40 SO and EXT SFP 25G BX33D27 40 SO online. Please confirm these are the correct models and share any additional details on the requirement. They are the correct model. Solid Optics is the brand that supplies them. The distances vary but the max one is under 20km

4. Power and airflow: Are there any specific power, redundancy, or airflow requirements we should plan for? The extreme switch part numbers supplied in the RFP contained all the necessary power supplies needed, part numbers also indicate airflow requirements.
