About this file
This specification document issued by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) dated November 2025 details procurement requirements for laboratory equipment. TxDOT seeks to purchase two ignition ovens for determining asphalt content of bituminous mixtures using the ignition method. The equipment must be delivered to the TxDOT location at 1701 S. Padre Island Drive, Corpus Christi, TX 78416, attention Jacob Longoria. The specification requires new, current-production equipment meeting AASHTO T 308 and ASTM D6307 standards with no used, shopworn, demonstrator, prototype, remanufactured, or discontinued models acceptable. Key technical specifications include a chamber temperature range reaching at least 1,200°F (650°C) with automatic temperature control and over-temperature protection, an integrated balance with minimum 10,000 g capacity and 0.1 g resolution, heat-resistant sample baskets with minimum 4,500 g capacity, exhaust and filtration systems for asphalt combustion fumes, and RS-232 or USB interface for data export. The unit must operate at 220–240 V single phase and include an internal printer, LCD display, keypad, and onboard memory capable of storing minimum 20 projects, 20 aggregate correction factors, and 200 sample records.
Vendor deliverables must include the complete ignition oven system with all required accessories, calibration documentation with certificate of compliance, and operator's manuals and safety instructions in English. Materials must be warranted against defects in workmanship and materials for not less than 12 months covering 100 percent parts and labor, with the warranty period commencing upon TxDOT acceptance. If the manufacturer's standard warranty exceeds 12 months, the manufacturer's warranty period applies. Example acceptable makes and models include the Troxler Model 4740 ICO NCAT Ignition Oven and Humboldt H-1550 Ignition Oven, though equivalent products meeting or exceeding specifications will be considered. Vendor performance will be monitored regularly, with unsatisfactory performance potentially resulting in negative performance reports or contract cancellation, while exceptional performance may be recognized for early delivery, product upgrades at no additional cost, exceptional customer service, or provision of unrequired technical assistance.
