About this file

This document is a Scope of Work (Exhibit D) for HHS0016579, detailing specifications for procuring one (1) refrigerated 48-foot van trailer with 65,000-pound GVWR. The trailer is to be inspected and picked up within a 200-mile radius of Austin, TX, and must be a 2018 or newer model. Detailed specifications cover multiple aspects including running gear, lower frame, body construction, insulation, paint, air and electrical systems, and refrigeration unit requirements.

The trailer specifications are highly technical, requiring specific components such as an air sliding tandem axle sub-frame, aluminum wheels, air-operated brakes, extruded aluminum lower rail, fire-retardant polyurethane insulation, and a refrigeration unit capable of maintaining temperatures between -20°F to 70°F with humidity control between 60% to 85%. Painting requirements include pre-painting steel parts, with cross members and parts below the lower rail painted gray or black, and other steel parts painted white. The trailer must meet various industry standards, including ATA, DOT, and U.S.F.D.A. requirements, with emphasis on precise temperature control and cargo preservation during transportation.

Landing gear mounted at approximately 110 in. location measured from kingpin. Mounting to span a minimum of four (4) cross members.

• Mud flaps – Anti-sail, vented spray suppressant type, and mounted on the sliding tandem suspension.

• Bumper – Rear ICC bumper meeting federal under-ride requirements and providing full width door, lock and lower hinge protection. Minimum of two (2) rubber dock bumpers.

• Tire Carriers – One (1) basket type with locking devices.

• Fuel Line Conduit – 1 in. minimum conduit located in floor insulation cavity from nose to rear of landing gear.

• Floor – Heavy duty 1 ¼ in. corrugated, moderately aggressive safety grip type (i.e. Ex-A-Grip II or equivalent) extruded aluminum reefer floor. All joints, endcaps and gutters welded full length and to be watertight.

Watertight integral extruded aluminum or polyethylene scuff band extending up side walls 10 in. to 12 in. from floor. Flashing and scuff liner to run full length without vertical joints. Top edge of scuff band recess for liner

(tongue and groove type). Front and flush threshold rear gutters. Four (4) 1 in. minimum drains with collapsible closures (kazoo) located one each corner. Minimum 48 in. long bearing sheet and aluminum I beam floor inserts full width at rear for forklift loading. Composite or hardwood floor stringers. Fiberglass reinforced under pan, undercoated full length.

BODY

• General – No conductive material contact trailer interior to exterior.

• Side Panel – Minimum .040 aluminum, corrugated horizontally on 4 in. – 8 in. pattern, pre-painted white.

• Front Panels –Bright finish stainless steel.

• Corner Panels –Bright finish stainless steel aerodynamically radius (round or beveled).

• Side Posts – Extruded aluminum “J” posts on 12 in. centers, double riveted to upper and lower rails.

• Upper Rail – Extruded aluminum.

• Front Posts – Aluminum body posts, steel frame structure and additional reinforcement for nose mount.

• Roof Sheet – Minimum .032 one-piece aluminum, flattened before installation. Reinforced rivet attachment outside of insulation cavity.

• Roof Bows – Extruded aluminum on 24-in. centers bonded to roof sheet. Upper rail designed so that roof bows are attached inboard of trailer sidewall.

• Rear Doors – Two (2) swing type doors with bright finish stainless steel diamond quilted exterior panels.
