About this file

This is a technical specification document from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the procurement of a Superpave gyratory compactor with installation, calibration, and training services for the Lubbock District Laboratory Office. The specification (TxDOT 845-63-62737, dated July 2025) requires a laboratory gyratory compactor that creates cylindrical specimens from loose hot mix asphalt through vertical consolidation pressure and gyratory kneading effort to simulate long-term traffic effects on pavement. The equipment must include three mold assemblies (150mm inside dimension), built-in extruder, multi-point calibration capabilities, data recording and output functions with USB ports, and comprehensive calibration tools. Examples cited include Pine Test Equipment Model AFG2A and Troxler Electronic Laboratories Model 5850v2, though TxDOT approved equals are acceptable. The vendor must provide factory-trained technician services, equipment manuals, demonstration training (minimum two hours), verification of calibration, and a 12-month or 1,200-hour warranty covering 100% parts and labor.

The specification requires new equipment only (no used, demonstrator, or reconditioned units) with delivery completed within the timeframe specified on the purchase order, followed by acceptance inspection and performance testing within five working days. Payment will be made within 30 days after acceptance inspection completion and invoice receipt. The vendor must have an authorized dealer within Texas with factory-trained personnel and parts inventory for warranty repairs and service. Additional requirements include compliance with federal and state safety regulations, environmental considerations, ANSI safety standards for product plaques/decals, English-language manuals in both hard copy and electronic format, and specific personnel qualifications including valid driver's licenses and clean driving records for technicians traveling to TxDOT locations.
