Section 1 – Introduction

Be Well, Texas (BWTX) is a state-funded program for Texans seeking help with substance use and/or mental illness. BWTX provides convenient access to high-quality, evidence-based treatment and related services to all people – with or without insurance, or the ability to pay.

At BWTX, we offer comprehensive care for substance use disorder (SUD) and non-severe mental illness. Psychiatric evaluation, medication management, counseling, peer recovery support, technology tools, and case management are included in our suite of services. All laboratory and medication costs are included and free for those who qualify.

BWTX is an interdisciplinary team of addiction medicine specialists, behavioral experts, and people with lived experience in recovery. Through convenient and rapidly accessible telehealth and in-person services, we meet people where they are to achieve long-lasting recovery and better health outcomes. To learn more about BWTX, please visit our website at https://www.bewelltexas.org

With funding from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), BWTX at UT Health San Antonio serves as an administrative entity and the backbone of a statewide network that delivers and manages public health initiatives. Our mission is to provide equitable access to compassionate, evidence-based treatment and services for substance use disorders (SUDs), regardless of the patient’s ability to pay for care. BWTX uses a collaborative approach to meet the increased need for crisis intervention services, mental health, and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, and other related recovery supports. BWTX will ensure coordination amongst local partner organizations and key stakeholders to support stigma and harm reduction, treatment, and Recovery Support Services (RSS) across the state.

This project is funded through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) through state and federal funding from the Office Based Treatment Services (OBT) contract.
