5. PROGRAM BACKGROUND

5.1 DETAILED PROGRAM OVERVIEW

In 2022, THECB announced the Student Success Accelerating Planning Grants, supported by the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) fund, authorized by the Coronavirus Recovery and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRSSA) Act signed into law in December 2020. During the first phase, 74 Action Plans were developed with evidence-based practices from public and private institutions across the state. In the second phase, 59 institutions worked with technical assistance providers in development, enhancement, and scaling of evidence-based programs in the areas of Academic Supports, Advising, Basic Needs/Wrap- Around Services, Finances/Cost, Mental Health and Wellness, Some College, No Credential Reengagement, and Underserved Populations. In this next phase of the SSAP 2.0 Grant program, participants will continue to implement their student success programs and participate in a self-evaluation process measuring their programs’ potential for impact using a rubric created by THECB and identify areas of improvement. Additional funding opportunities may be available for programs related to assisting students who may need additional support through Student Engagement and Awareness groups: Pregnant and Parent Students, Foster Care, Intellectual and Developmental Disability, Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Students.
