INVITATION FOR COMPETITIVE SEALED BIDS
FOR
STEAM STERILIZER (AUTOCLAV)
IFB # 734-10012024-AS
NIIGP Codes: 260-79, 465-90, 493-10
ADDENDUM 1
Bid Submittal Due Date:
Friday, October 18, 2024, by 2:00 PM (CDT)
STEAM STERILIZER (AUTOCLAV)
IFB # 734-10012024-AS
Following are Lamar University’s responses to questions submitted by Respondents for this solicitation:
1. Q: What is being sterilized?
A: Media and liquids
2. Q: Are you sterilizing media or liquids?
A: Both
3. Q: How much is being sterilized per day and per cycle?
A: N/A
4. Q: Is this a replacement project? If so, what make / model do you currently have?
A: Yes, Getinge
5. Q: What is the delivery address?
A: Lamar University, 1050 East Lavaca Street, Beaumont, TX 77705
(Deliveries accepted Monday – Friday, 8:00A – 4:30P)
6. Q: Will this be located on the first floor?
A: No
7. Q: Do you have a dock for delivery?
A: Yes
8. Q: Do you have 3-phase electrical power?
A: No
9. Q: Will this be free standing - or inside a wall?
A: Free standing
10. Q: Single door, correct? If you need a dual door (pass-thru autoclave) will you need a Bioseal?
A: Single door
11. Q: Do you have in-house steam? Or will you need steam generators?
A: We supply in house RO water.
12. Q: With all due respect, the bid specifications are detailed in a manner that reads more like a “sole source” procurement, in favor of one particular autoclave brand. While it is difficult to call out every single difference between our autoclave and the basis of design, we felt it was important to raise the attached list of questions. Please confirm this is a competitive bid solicitation.
A: This is a competitive sealed solicitation.
13. Q: A carbon steel jacket is listed in the bid specifications. We exceed the specification by offering, as standard, a stainless-steel jacket. Would you like to have this feature (stainless steel jacket) added as a requirement of the specification?
A: It can be added but not required.
14. Q: The bid states that the autoclave will need “Gravity Air Removal with Economy
Post-Vacuum Drying System.” We highly recommend you add “pre and post vacuum” cycles to the bid requirements. Mechanically removing the air from the chamber and load will provide efficient steam penetration of wrapped goods, porous materials and certain types of mixed loads. It also allows the use of a vacuum leak test, which checks the integrity of the chamber regarding air leaks.
Vacuum cycles can also provide quicker turn-around times as well as greater sterility assurance, while also assisting in the drying process. Would you like to have this feature (pre and post vacuum cycles) added as a requirement of the specification?
A: It can be added but not required.
15. Q: Will you accept a vertical sliding door in lieu of a manual hinged radial arm
(swing out) door configuration? The majority of autoclave manufacturers no longer offer a manual hinged radial arm door.
A: A non-motorized door is preferred. Vertical is fine as long as it is manual operation.
16. Q: Please identify the existing autoclave that is to be de-installed. Please provide the make/model number and photos of the existing autoclave.
A: The existing equipment make and model are: Getinge, Model: 533ls-e
