About this file

This is a set of construction drawings and technical specifications for the Olmito Sidewalk Improvements project (Bid #240301) prepared by Cameron County, Texas. The project encompasses sidewalk improvements on three streets: Tomas Cortez Jr Street (Stations 10+16 to 14+13), Parker Avenue (Stations 11+36 to 33+09), and associated areas in Olmito. The work involves constructing 4-inch-thick concrete sidewalks reinforced with #6 6"x6" wire mesh over 2-inch sand cushions with a 1.5% typical slope. Existing conditions vary by location, with some areas featuring existing sidewalks and valley gutters that will be modified or replaced. The project requires compliance with Texas Department of Transportation's Standard Specifications for Construction and Maintenance of Highways, Streets, and Bridges (November 2014), adapted for Cameron County use. General requirements include utility location verification through 1-800 call services prior to excavation, traffic control in accordance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, removal of excess materials and debris at contractor expense, repair of any damage to existing property, prevention of overnight open excavations, and cleanup and site restoration upon project completion.

The drawings specify detailed typical sections for different street segments, including existing and proposed configurations showing roadway dimensions, right-of-way boundaries, asphalt pavement, travel lanes, curb and gutter installations, and sidewalk placements. Material specifications require Class "A" concrete at 3,000 PSI for all sidewalks and ramps, with bedding sand considered subsidiary to pertinent contract items. Wire mesh must be supported by chairs prior to pouring, and concrete sidewalks require 1/4-inch thick score joints at maximum 6-foot spacing and expansion joints at maximum 18-foot spacing. The project includes provisions for traffic control devices with truck-mounted attenuators, pavement markings using 0.100-inch thermoplastic material, sign installation and relocation per current design standards, temporary erosion and sedimentation control measures, and a "Safety Contingency" force account for unforeseen work zone enhancements. Contractor responsibilities include hand excavation where necessary, potential dewatering operations, compliance with the Build America, Buy America Act certification requirements, weekly equipment reports, and coordination with TXDOT regarding utility conflicts and sign relocations.
