About this file
This document details salient characteristics for an Electron Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) detector to be installed on a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) for the AFTAC Radiochemistry Laboratory. The specific requirements include compatibility with an FEI Quanta 450 SEM with a tungsten filament electron source, capability to perform elemental analysis from Boron to Curium, a detector size of at least 60 mm, and ability to perform line scans and mapping. Additional critical specifications mandate that the detector must be installed by a manufacturer-qualified individual, include initial training during installation, have no WIFI or Internet connection, and come with a one-year initial warranty.
