About this file
This is a specification document for EGBA IFB 2019-0012, a design-build contract for the Twin Mountain Tower Replacement project located in Fremont County, Colorado, approximately 8 miles northwest of Canon City. The project involves the design, supply, and erection of a 160-foot self-supporting communication tower with associated foundations, grounding systems, cable bridge, and transmission equipment. The Design/Build Entity is responsible for dismantling the existing tower, which may occur up to six months after construction of the new tower and must be included in the bid cost. The tower must comply with TIA-222-H standards and support existing and future antennae at various elevations, including multiple microwave dishes and omni-directional antennas detailed in the equipment table. The design must accommodate environmental criteria including 112 mph basic wind speed, 60 mph service wind speed, and 0-inch ice thickness. The Design/Build Entity must obtain all necessary permits, submit a construction plan minimum 30 days prior to mobilization, and coordinate with the state regarding erosion control plans and earthwork approval.
The Design/Build Entity shall furnish all materials, labor, and equipment necessary for a complete and functional installation, with all structural components fabricated from domestically-produced steel and hot-dip galvanized per ASTM A123 or A153 standards. Tower foundations must be designed for maximum calculated loads using concrete meeting ACI 318 requirements with a minimum 28-day compressive strength of 4,500 psi, and anchor bolts must be ASTM F1554 Grade 105. All structural bolts must be new ASTM A325 Type 1 high-strength bolts with galvanized heavy hex nuts and hardened flat washers. The grounding system must utilize a UFER ground with 2/0 bare stranded copper buried minimum 36 inches below finished grade, and the Design/Build Entity must perform grounding resistance testing using the Fall of Potential Test per Motorola R56 standards. The Design/Build Entity is responsible for site clearing, roadway material provision, excavation approval, concrete washout area setup, material storage notification, erosion control device installation and maintenance, utility location, and backfill compaction to 95 percent standard proctor. Comprehensive submittal requirements include tower design models in GUYMAST format, signed and sealed professional engineer drawings, mill certificates for all structural elements, foundation calculations, transmission system test results, and as-built documentation to be provided in both hard copy and electronic formats upon project completion.
