Organization All About Love Trust Zimbabwe was established in 2009, with the aim of sharing love, hope, information, skill and support to children especially those affected or infected by HIV. The organisation has managed to impact children in areas that were once remote and helped to be a supporting structure for these children. The organisation has six staff, the director of the organisation, a volunteer and four interns. The project will be coordinated between the organisation and the community. All members of the organisation will take part in the project. An administrator will be selected from the Mangwande support group and will be in charge of the day to day activities of the project and will be reporting to the project coordinator. The project coordinator will report to the director. Members of the support group and the community will also participate in construction of the chicken run and this will reduce the cost as they are to benefit. All About Love Trust Zimbabwe has not received any funding from the US Embassy but we have made several applications with your organization.
Proposal Summary All About Love Trust Zimbabwe (AALTZ) is seeking for funding to establish a chicken rearing project with the target aim being to help children who are affected or infected by HIV. Most of these children come from child headed families and have no any other source of income as both of their parents have died due to HIV/AIDS related illness. Due to the micro economic challenges and drought in this current 2019/20 season it has become very difficult for these would be beneficiaries. The organization has got a tradition of paying and meeting school fees requirements for these children when funds are available. It is on this philosophy that when generating income, the majority of the income should be used on school fees and uniform to all support groups regardless of location.
The funding will cater for the building of a chicken run and purchasing of chickens and vaccines. The organisation will also establish a garden as a way of utilising waste generated from the rearing of the chickens. We target to have cash crops, cabbages, tomatoes and green vegetables on a small scale and improve as more profits are being yield. As we start this project, we target to have an average of 200 plants per product as the clinic has got zesa and solar powered water for irrigation, water will not be a major challenge. Every member of the community is going to benefit indirectly from this chicken rearing project as they will be now buying cheap relish from the support group and make a saving on their daily incomes.
The project anticipates having at most 200beneficiaries. Below is a list of the beneficiaries who are going to benefit directly from the project;

The selection criteria used to select the above beneficiary was on general principle that all the beneficiaries should be either affected or infected with HIV/AIDS. The above project will be used to complement their income as well as meeting their dietary needs as they will be now having a portion of protein intake on a given day. The HIV/AIDS support groups from which these beneficiaries are drawn are two adjacent wards in the Lower Gweru area (Lower Gweru Mission area and Mangwande)
The organisation is planning to build a chicken run that can accommodate at least 1 000 chickens at any given time. The chickens will be sold after a period of 6-7 weeks at $5 per chicken. Profits will be injected back into the project and help to expand the project. After establishing this project the community and the beneficiaries will now be having an income generating project in their area thereby reducing time to travel to major cities to look for chickens and spent more time on household work. As regards to the beneficiaries this will be an income generating project which will be used to supplement their income and also a tool used to manage team building technique amongst themselves. Training on chicken project will empower their technical knowledge and skills which will be a long term benefit to them regardless of their status.
Program Design The organisation is proposing to carry out a chicken rearing project at Mangwande Clinic in Lower Gweru an area which is to the south west of the city Gweru where the organisation operates one of its support groups. A garden will also be established where different vegetables and crops will be grown. The land at the institution will be utilised for the building of the chicken run and the setting up of the garden. Expenses incurred will include those for building material, transport, labour, stockfeeds, treatment and vaccines for the chickens. Members of the community are going to participate at every stage of the community project from the project selection, initiation, implementation and the monitoring and evaluation of the project.
Transportation Services of a registered transport company will be employed to ferry all the inputs for this project to the project site.
Chicken Run The organisation intends to build a chicken run which can accommodate at least 1 200 birds of different growth levels at any given time. This will be built of brick and mortar with asbestos roofing and fenced. The inside of the chicken run is going to be plastered. Services of experienced builders will be employed to oversee and work on the construction of this chicken run and since this is a community project, members of the community will also lend a supporting hand. This is the first step towards the success of this project. It is expected that work on the chicken run will be complete in a month’s time from the time of receipt of funds for the project.
Upon finishing the building of the chicken run, treatment of the surrounding area which will include spraying to control pesticides and other diseases will be done before the ordering of the first batch of chicks.
Chickens Day old chicks will be ordered. Each order will consist of 500 chicks. The first batch of 500 chicks will be ordered and delivered at Mangwande Clinic in the third month. The aim is to order two batches of 500 chicks every month following the inception of the project. Members of the organisation’s support group at Mangwande Clinic will be in charge of taking care of the chicks on a daily basis this includes feeding and making sure that they are in good health until they are fully grown chickens ready for the market. The chickens take 6-7 weeks to grow to full maturity. Some of the chickens will be slaughtered and transported to the market whilst some will be sold as live birds to members of the community.
Refrigeration and Storage The organisation also intends to purchase a deep freezer to store the chickens between slaughtering and selling them. This should be able to accommodate at least 100 chickens. These chickens will be packaged in plastic bags or plastic carrier bags whichever is cheaper on the market and placed in the freezer for storage until purchased.
Garden As a way of utilising waste produced from the chicken project, the organisation is planning to put up a garden that will serve as a nutritional garden where different vegetables and crops will be grown for the benefit of these children living with HIV and their community. Chicken droppings will be used as manure in the garden. This garden project will be an off shoot of the chicken project. These vegetables will supplement children’s diet since some of the children are on anti-retroviral treatment. The vegetables will also be sold and help to raise more funds for these children.
Monitoring and Evaluation of project activities As the project will be on going, there is need to constantly conduct monitoring and evaluation activities to make sure that the programme stays on track and does not lose sight of the main objective. A monitoring and evaluation framework will be put in place to make sure that the project is reaching its intended goal. There is need to constantly assess to see that all birds acquired at any given time are in good health and the project coordinator overseeing this project and his team will make weekly visits to Mangwande Clinic. The administrator of the project (the one staying onsite) will compile a report of all weekly activities that will be done throughout the project i.e. a record of when and how many chickens were ordered, any problems that have arisen and need attention and this report will be analysed and evaluated by the project coordinator. If there is need for adjustments to be done, these will be discussed with the organisation’s executive.
All projects have risks that are attached to them. The operational risks for this project will include the fact that the chickens might not mature into fully grown chickens within the six weeks. A slow growth is to be expected. This might mean a minor shift in the planning of the project phases to extend their growth time to eight weeks. Another risk that has to be prepared for is that some chickens can die due to unplanned for conditions. These chickens have to be replaced so as to maintain a constant production. In order to make sure that there is a limited number of chickens that are dying, constant monitoring will be done at every stage.
An activity record book will be kept and recorded by the administrator onsite on a daily basis to ensure the consistency of the monitoring process.
Management of income generated from the project Funds generated from the project will be administered to a bank account which will be administered by the administrator in Gweru .Daily banking will be done an where possible some members will be encouraged to pay using the electronic system and mobile banking. A monthly project financial statement will be produced so that the income and expenditure will be analyzed.
5. Sustainability Plan A sustainability plan outlined below will be done so that the project can grow itself as a long term income project .
Project Objectives (Milestones) / Evaluation Framework
OBJECTIVE
ACTIVITIES
BASELINE
TARGET
Raise funds to support children living with HIV
Build a chicken run, buy stock feeds and treatment for the chickens, order day old chicks, raise and sell them, manage profits through savings group
Children living positively with HIV/AIDS lack financial support and nutritional supplements
By the end of the project, funds should have been raised to send children to school and help supplement their dietary needs
Improve the quality of life of the children living positively
Rearing chickens, selling chickens raising funds for the children, paying school fees for children, supplementing children’s diet
Children living positively have no access to resources that can improve their lives
By the end of the project, more than 95% of the children should be able to attend school, all children living positively should be able to have a balanced diet
Assist in supplementing children’s dietary needs
Setting up a nutritional gardens, growing vegetables and crops
Children living with HIV and taking anti-retroviral do not have adequate food to supplement their treatment
By the end of the project, dietary needs of children living with HIV should have been improved.
To encourage affected children to improve on team work
To establish groups to feed and monitor the projects made up of affected and infected children.
Most affected children normally withdraw from any social activity as they are segregated because of their condition
Immediately after the inception of the program, beneficiaries should start to share knowledge and experience there by building a better team amongst themselves.

When a batch is introduced there is need to keep the chickens in temperature control rooms for a period of three weeks before they are moved to the main chicken run. During this period more emphasis will be on feeding, giving enough water and keeping them warm. After completion of 12 months the project cycle starts afresh as funding for the next year will be available from profits raised.
2. Sustainability Plan
The proposed chicken rearing project will require funding on inception and once the first batch of full grown chickens is sold the program will be able to start being self-sustaining. The project’s sustainability is based on its ability to continue on its desired path and achieve the objectives set out at its onset. The profit generated from the sale of the chickens will be channeled back into purchasing more chickens and stockfeeds to continue expanding the project. The aim is that as the project goes on, the number of chickens acquired at any given time will grow so as to increase the profit and keep the project afloat. This project will successfully be sustainable because it is a community project and the community has ownership of the project. The community showed its approval of the project, by allowing the organisation to assist them in carrying out this project. There is a plan to involve the community at all stages of the project and to begin with the project plan has received support from the community. A project can be sustainable if it is community owned and run by the community. The participation of the community in this project is vital to its sustainability. In this light consultations were done with the community support group were the project will be based as a way of involving them in the planning and coordination of project directions.
The project activities must be transparent and well documented so as to inform every member of the community on the progress, success and sometimes setbacks during the project. The organisation is proposing to conduct monthly meetings where all matters pertaining to the project will be discussed and shared. Communication of the project progress has to be maintained among all stakeholders.
Maintaining project flexibility to adjust to project challenges and barriers is one of the issues that determine a project’s sustainability. The risks that the project carries with it might force a shift from the project process but the objectives still have to be met. Planning has been carried out to ascertain all the risks and how to deal with them so as to keep the project on track.
From this project activity, when enough funds have been raised the organisation will venture into other income generating projects that will even create employment for the local community population. Other similar projects will also be established throughout the community upon the successful implementation of this project.
3. Budget narrative explaining costs (Budget template in Annex B)
a) A total budget of $8415.80 has been attached to this project which constitutes the total grant required from your organization.
b) A survey of our current market was conducted to determine the pricing and atleast 3 quotations were sourced to determine the pricing index from suppliers in the poultry industry. Please note that a total cost also include the setting up of the chicken run.
Yes we did receive quotations and we have attached as per your requirement.
c) The community will contribute as detailed below:
1. Place where the project will be done will be provided by Mangwande clinic at no cost and at this venue we will not be charged for water and electricity.
2. The community will provide labour services for the construction of the chicken run
3. The output of the project, chicken, will be sold at affordable prices which will benefit the community as they supplement their diet.
d) The value cannot be equated into monetary value but will be greatly appreciated as its going to constitute a major input in the construction of the project.
e) The project we are going to establish is an income generating project which can sustain itself after a period of 6 weeks as cash generated will be used as running costs before calculating profits.
