NOAA Research Vessel NAUVOO (F4902) Dockage Requirements

NFFM7110-12-03217

Background

The NOAA Research Vessel NAUVOO is a 50’ coastal research platform owned and operated by the NOAA Fisheries J.J. Howard Marine Sciences Laboratory of Highlands, New Jersey. The current mission of the vessel is to support inshore, fisheries and oceanographic research.

Vessel measurements

• Length Over All 49.6 Feet

• Beam 16.8 Feet

• Draft 5.6 Feet

Dock length requirements

• The vessel requires a minimum 67’ long slip by 21’ wide with at least 8 points to attach lines (4 per side). Attachment points can be pilings, cleats & bollards. The slip must not be affected by strong tidal currents (in excess of 0.5 kts).

Electric requirements

• The vessel requires single phase 220v 50amp marine connection within 50’ of the vessel.

Fresh water requirements

• The vessel requires fresh water at the slip during frost free months. During winter months the vessel will need access to an alternative fresh water source (not required to be at the slip).

Dock / entrance channel minimum navigable water depth

• The vessel requires a minimum 6’ of water depth at MLLW (Mean Lower Low Water) in the slip and in all entrance channels in order to safely navigate at anytime.

Vessel loading requirements

• The vessel requires access to a slip / pier where the vessel can be loaded / unloaded.

This slip shall allow for a pickup truck to be pulled up to the vessel to facilitate loading / unloading.

Fuel / pump-out facilities

• The marina shall have onsite fuel and sewage pump-out.

Waste oil disposal

• The marina shall have a waste oil recovery tank for the disposal of the vessels used oil.

Driving distance from the laboratory

PAGE 4 OF 13 EA-133F-12-RQ-0384

• Due to the high cost of fuel and labor the marina shall be within 10 driving miles from the lab. This will help the lab maintain realistic costs during vessel operations when staff is traveling between the lab and vessel frequently.

Navigational distance requirement

• The marina shall be less than 3.5nm from Sandy Hook Pt Light. This requirement allows the lab to keep the vessel in a location close to its normal survey area, cutting costs on fuel and labor. Any location further from Sandy Hook Pt Light would cause costs to rise to the point it would become inefficient.
