CAAP 2015 Q&A
Question 1 : We are part of a university and are eligible to apply for FOA DTPH5615SN0003, however, it is usually more effective for us to involve students on a full-time basis by offering semester-long co-ops. Would this arrangement satisfy the student research component outlined in Section 3.02?
Answer 1: This type of arrangement would indeed fulfil the requirements in Section 3.02.
Question 2: On pages 7 and 8 the section “Intrinsically Locatable Plastic Materials” describes the issues faced when locating plastic pipelines prior to excavation. There are some systems on the market that use RFID technologies for pipeline/cable location. We believe that current RFID-based systems can be improved in terms of performance and cost. For an intrinsically locatable plastic pipeline, must the location technology be embedded within the pipe walls or can it be attached to the pipe afterwards? Does the location technology have to be attached to the pipe at all? Can you tell us what past efforts have failed? Is RFID considered to be one of the failed efforts?
Answer 2: An application may be submitted and the course of action needs to justify it over other tools including as to how it's installed.
Question 3: The descriptions under the second topic: Intrinsically Locatable Plastic Materials seem to limit this research to any electro/magnetic materials as part of the plastic pipes. Could you clarify if you would be interested in other technologies where electro/magnetic materials are either externally attached to plastic pipes or move inside the plastic pipes? In this way, plastic pipes can be manufactured in a conventional, cost-effective way while the electro/magnetic materials can be monitored from the ground surface in a similar way. Thanks.
Answer 3: An application may be submitted and the course of action needs to justify it over other tools including as to how it's installed.
Question 4: In Review Criterion, the Creation I mentioned “Did Professor identify SME oversight?”
Answer 4: SME refers to Subject Matter Expert.
Question 5: Is partnership with industrial a must in this proposal?
Answer 5: No
