Data Readiness for AI Development (DRAID)

PREPARING SMALL BUSINESSES, START-UPS, AND

NON-TRADITIONALS FOR RFP PARTICIPATION

The DoD Joint Artificial Intelligence Center is committed to leveraging the best of the American enterprise to power the transformation of the DoD through AI. As part of this commitment, we are working to ensure all companies—from established providers to the newest start-up—are able to participate in our innovative DRAID acquisition vehicle.

WHAT IS THE DRAID?

DRAID is an acquisition vehicle specifically designed to make data AI-ready.

It enables DoD- components and the U.S. Federal Government to access the cutting-edge commercial services to meet the complex needs of preparing data for use with AI applications. It has been designed from scratch using the technical knowledge of the DoD Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) to ensure it meets the technical requirements of this novel field. DRAID significantly reduces the time and effort needed to make data AI ready, supports the entire range of needed AI data readiness services, and helps individual DoD components align with DoD-wide AI strategy.

Data Readiness for AI Development (DRAID) Accessibility Guide (continued)

1. OBTAIN A DUNS NUMBER

Uniquely identify your business

The first step in preparing to participate in the DRAID is to apply for a DUNS number. The DUNS number is a unique nine-digit ID number for each physical location of your business.

You can apply for a DUNS number at the following link: DUNS Request Service

Required Information for DUNS Number Application

☐ Legal name

☐ Headquarters name and address for your business

☐ Doing Business As (DBA) or other name by which your business is commonly recognized

☐ Physical address, city, state, and ZIP Code

☐ Mailing address (if different from headquarters and/or physical address)

☐ Telephone number

☐ Contact name and title

☐ Number of employees at your physical location whether you’re a home-based business

2. Register in SAM Add your business to the Federal Government database

The second step is to register your business in the federal government’s System for Award Management (SAMs) database. This is the database that government agencies search to find contractors.

You can register in SAM by following the instructions at the following link: System for Award Management (SAM).

3. Use Proper for NAICS Code Use NAICS Code 518210 for your product/service standardized code

The third step is to use the proper North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code. NAICS codes classify businesses based on the particular product or service they supply. A business will generally have a primary NAICS code, but it can also have multiple NAICS codes if it sells multiple products and services.

The Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) Data Readiness Artificial Intelligence Development (DRAID) Basic Ordering

Agreement (BOA) uses NAICS Code: 518210 – Data Processing, Hosting, and Related Services. If your business does not supply products or services that match this NAICS code, this may not be the proper opportunity for your business. If

More information about NAICS code can be found by viewing the NAICS code list at the U.S. Census Bureau.

4. Find your Size Standard Determine if your business qualifies as “small”

The fourth step is determine your size standard. The SBA assigns a size standard to each NAICS code. Most manufacturing companies with 500 employees or fewer, and most non-manufacturing businesses with average annual receipts under $7.5 million, will qualify as a small business.

To determine if your business qualifies as "small" for government contracting purposes, use the SBA’s tool at the following link: Size Standards Tool.
