About this file
This document is a draft Statement of Work (SOW) for the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) to research and develop the additive manufacturing of metal cases for solid rocket motors. The key objectives are to demonstrate the ability to additively manufacture rocket motor cases with combined domes and cylindrical shapes in relevant diameters of seven inches or larger for high strength metal rocket motor cases. The SOW outlines the requirements for the contractor, including general requirements, security requirements, and detailed support requirements across three phases. In Phase 1, the contractor shall explore, develop, and demonstrate an additive manufacturing process to produce the high strength metal cases. In Phase 2, the Government will test the samples provided and the contractor shall revise the formulation or processing as needed. In Phase 3, the contractor shall provide a final report summarizing the additive manufacturing process and results. The SOW indicates this is a new requirement, and a related Sources Sought notice is attached seeking industry feedback on the draft SOW and capabilities of potential vendors.

1. Scope:
This Statement of Work (SOW) supports the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) China Lake, California (CA) Propulsion and Energetics Division, Code D556000, to research and develop the additive manufacturing of metal cases for solid rocket motors. One of the challenges of rocket motor cases is the presence of complex shapes such hemispherical domes and cylinders. The intent of this SOW is to demonstrate the ability to additively manufacture rocket motor cases with combined domes and cylindrical shapes in relevant diameters of seven (7) inches or larger for use in high strength metal rocket motor cases.
