1.1.1 All cast-in-place concrete.
2. QUALITY ASSURANCE:
2.1 American Concrete Institute (ACI) Specifications, latest edition. Concrete work shall conform to all requirements of ACI 301 Specifications for Structural Concrete for Building, except as modified by the following Supplemental Requirements.
2.2 American Society for Testing Materials Standards and Specifications as noted in ACI 301.
2.3 Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute: CRSI Manual of Standard Practice "Monolithic Reinforced Concrete"
2.6.1 Reinforcing Bars
a. Reinforcing bars must be deformed, except spirals, load-transfer dowels, and welded wire reinforcement, which may be plain.
b. ASTM A615/A615M with the bars marked A, Grade 60; or ASTM A996/A996M with the bars marked R, Grade 60, or marked A, Grade 60.
c. Reinforcing bars may contain post-consumer or post-industrial recycled content.
d. Plain welded wire reinforcement must conform to ASTM A1064/A1064M, with welded intersections spaced no greater than 12 in. apart in direction of principal reinforcement.
3. SUBMITTALS:
3.1 Manufacturer's Literature for:
3.1.1 Admixtures.
3.2 The selection of concrete proportions shall be in accordance with ACI 301, Article 3.8. Before any concrete is placed for the Project, the Contractor shall submit to the Contracting Officer for review all necessary data showing the method used for determining the proposed concrete mix design, including fine and coarse aggregate gradations; location of all borrow pits and stockpiles to be used in concrete production; proportions of all ingredients; water-cement ratio; slump; air content; 28-day cylinder breaks and other required data for each different concrete type specified. Mix designs and strength test results must be prepared by a qualified materials testing laboratory. (See also 8.2, Durability)
3.3 All ready-mixed concrete dispatched from a batch plant must be accompanied by dispatch slip showing concrete strength, slump, additives, time of introduction of mixing water, and must be signed by plant dispatcher. Truck driver's signature will not meet this requirement.
3.4 Placement Notification: Notify Contracting Officer’s representative 24 hours in advance of each intended concrete placement, and four days prior to scheduled first concrete pour.
3.5 Provide manufacturer's written recommendation for installation of his product.
3.6 Mix design showing entrained air content, cement content, maximum water content, slump range, cement type, and the estimated compressive strength.
3.7 Field and lab test results.
3.8 Submit an anchors design and layout plan.
4. PRODUCT HANDLING:
4.1 Storage of Materials: ACI 304.
5. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
5.1 Cold Weather: ACI 306R. Cold weather is defined as a period when for more than consecutive days the mean daily temperatures drop below 40 F (5 C). When temperatures above 50F (10 C) occur during more than half of any 24-hour period, the concrete should no longer be regarded as winter concrete. Heating of concrete should not exceed 90 F.
5.2 Inclement Weather: Protect freshly placed concrete against damage by infiltration of any adverse weather. When damage might occur, terminate placing against nearest construction joint bulkhead and cover at once with waterproof protection until concrete has set.
5.3 Sprayed-on Protective Coatings: Apply when air temperature is between 50 F (10 C) and 80 F (27 C), relative humidity below 80 percent. Do not apply when rain is forecast within 24 hours.
5.4 Hot weather: ACI 305. work plans must include preparation to limit the temperature affects on concrete. As the selected limiting temperatures, usually but not always between 75 F to 100 F (24C to 38 C) is approached and exceeded, it is likely that the unfavorable effects of high temperature will occur.
