About this file

This document is a Request for Information (RFI) issued by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) seeking potential qualified sources capable of providing a confocal spectroscopic microscope system with specific capabilities.

The system must have nine key capabilities, including confocal optical imaging, Raman imaging, photoluminescence imaging, near-field scanning optical microscopy, and others. It requires 25nm lateral resolution and the ability to collect multiple spectroscopic data sets sequentially without removing the sample. The system must include various light sources, objectives, filters, spectrometers, and scanning probe microscopy extensions.

The RFI is for information and planning purposes only and does not commit the government to a contract. NRL is looking to determine set-aside possibilities for small businesses. Responses are due by May 10, 2024 and should include company information, capabilities relevant to the salient characteristics, and past performance. Any proprietary information must be clearly marked.

SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS

Confocal Spectroscopic Microscope System

PR: 56-9105-24

PSC: 6650 – Stimulated Coherent Radiation Devices, Components, and Accessories

NAICS: 334510 – Laser systems and equipment, medical, manufacturing

Following is a list of the salient characteristics of the required confocal microscope and spectroscopy system:

This confocal microscope system requires the following nine capabilities:

(1) confocal optical imaging,

(2) Raman imaging,

(3) photoluminescence (PL) imaging,

(4) Near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) imaging,

(5) white light transmittance/reflectance imaging,

(6) Atomic force microscopy (AFM) imaging,

(7) Pulsed second harmonic microscopy,

(8) Tip-enhanced Raman imaging, and

(9) Time-correlated single-photon-count imaging (fluorescence lifetime imaging, FLIM, and time-resolved luminescence microscopy, TLM, etc.) with multichannel time-correlated photon counting capabilities.

The system requires 25nm lateral resolution for optically interrogating materials down to the single particle level all in one microscope, where multiple spectroscopic data sets can be collected (PL, Raman, AFM, etc.) sequentially, without removing the sample and with aligned sample registration. In addition, software control will be provided for image acquisition and processing. The system includes multiple light sources: white light, and cw, pulsed and picosecond lasers. In addition, a port for coupling our own cw and femtosecond light sources is required. Automated polarization control of source and detection optics is required.
