Description of Requirement

For

PRESSURE SENSORS AND CABLES

W81EWF00451639

Product/Service Description

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL) Coastal Observation and Analysis Branch (COAB) requires Pressure Sensors and associated cabling as part of a sensor suite to support its efforts to remotely characterize and measure dynamics within the swash zone, the dynamic area of the beach where waves run up and down. The high-resolution in-situ depth provided by these instruments will be used to validate stereo camera and lidar surface elevations. They will be part of a novel configuration of new technologies to measure 4D surface elevation point clouds (𝜂,𝑥,𝑦,𝑡) in the swash zone. By measuring and spectrally decomposing forcing terms, infragravity and incident wave interaction and/or alongshore-variable pressure gradients can be shown to be a driving force of alongshore current generation. The instruments will also be applicable for other future research as well.

The instrumentation must meet the high quality of data standards met by other instruments in use at the Field Research Facility (FRF) located in Duck, NC. They also must align with other in-situ sensors being used for this work. The oceanographic pressure sensors must have analog and RS-232 output in order to be precisely synchronized with each other. Analog is the only communication that will work for this purpose across the necessary cable lengths (150m). RS-232 is also necessary to program the sensors. The sensors must be pre-calibrated in sealed containers with calibration to equate voltage to pressure in order to avoid additional labor, equipment, and expertise to calibrate them upon their deployment. In addition to the above factors, the sensors must be able to sample pressure values at high frequencies (up to 16 Hz) in order to fully capture in-situ measurements at rates that can validate remotely sensed measurements. The sensors must be able to fully survive and perform in the wet, turbid, surf-zone environment. Good technical support from the vendor also is necessary should any questions arise during deployment. Sensors must have all the above aspects.

Therefore the acquisition must include Brand Name or Equal to:
