About this file
This document is a Timber Sale Prescription from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources - Forest Resources Division for a contract opportunity in the Escanaba (Felch) area. The contract involves crown thinning of northern hardwood stands in Compartments 6, 21, and 33, with a total estimated acreage of 179 acres. The contract work can begin immediately and must be completed by 09/01/2025. The marking and cruising specifications are included in the bid, and the DNR will provide paint and cruise layout files. Restrictions include the contractor having no more than two markers in one cruise unit without prior approval, and each marker having an assigned area to mark. Access to the stands will be challenging, with Stand 6 requiring private access, Stand 21 involving an ATV and a road with a beaver dam, and Stand 33 accessible directly off Blomgren's Marsh Road.
The contract requires the contractor to follow the Complete Marker and prioritize selection of trees, with a target basal area of 80 and an acceptable range of 70-90. The contractor must not mark any oak, pine, hemlock, or cedar, and must favor leaving minor component species. Additional stand-specific instructions are provided. The contractor must conduct a pre-contract meeting and work with the contract administrator to ensure compliance with the contract requirements.
