PRESCRIPTION

Stands 4 & 21: Reduce BA to 70 square feet/acre. Remove in order of priority: High risk trees that likely will not survive until the next cutting cycle (20 years), quality sawtimber/veneer trees 18” at DBH or larger, and if needed thin from below to meet the desired stocking. Favor well-formed hard maple and basswood as residual.

Leave 1 to 2 large canopy maple per acre, where present. Capture value of basswood 18” at DBH or larger, do not remove all basswood.

• The eastern portion of Stand 4 has a heavy component of white ash saplings 10’ tall. This area also has a slightly lower BA ranging 90 to 100.

• Do not mark hemlock, oak, yellow birch, black ash, cedar, or white pine. Do not mark adjacent to these species to avoid logging damage.

• Keep components of all tree species and diameter classes in the residual stand.

• All vernal and lowland hardwood areas may have not been identified within the sale area. If any are found during sale set up, buffer these areas a minimum of one tree length.

• In the event a raptor nest(s) is found, follow DNR buffering guidelines. Dependent upon the stand, a portion of the stand may need to be removed.

Stand 6: Mark one white birch and healthy red maple to leave per cruise point, where available.

• Cruise merchantable aspen, maple, white birch, balsam fir, and spruce. Do not cruise yellow birch, oak, black ash, hemlock, or white pine.
