About this file
This is a Timber Sale Prescription document from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources - Forest Resources Division for the Old Man Forester timber sale located in the Cadillac Management Unit, Wexford County. The sale covers 231.6 estimated acres across Sections 6, 7, and 18 in Township 24N, Range 11W, with contract work to begin immediately and be completed by 07/01/2026. The timber sale involves multiple treatment approaches across different stand types, including clearcut, clearcut with retention, low thinning, and shelterwood treatments primarily focusing on red pine, aspen, and lowland conifer areas.
The timber sale prescribes specific marking and harvesting guidelines, including cutting trees 2 inches or greater at diameter breast height (DBH), retaining certain tree species and sizes, and marking trees to leave or cut using green and orange paint respectively. The sale includes GPS boundary data, paint line work for exterior and interior boundaries, and requires detailed documentation including a list of markers for each cruise unit and a summary of paint used. Paint will be supplied from the Manton Field Office, and the contractor must adhere to DNR work schedules, with work not permitted on weekends or evenings. The total merchantable residual basal area and specific product specifications for sawlogs and pulpwood are outlined in the prescription.
