Timber Sale Prescription Summary
This is a Timber Sale Prescription document issued by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Forest Resources Division, for timber marking and harvest operations in Compartment 63081 located in Missaukee County near Cadillac. The project encompasses 97.1 acres across six stands (55, 56, 58, 60, 61, and 73) with mixed forest cover types including aspen, red pine, mixed upland, white pine, and jack pine. Work includes timber marking with paint lines, GPS boundary data collection, and specialized marking to designate trees for harvest or retention according to stand-specific prescriptions. Contract work may begin on October 1, 2025, and must be completed by July 1, 2026. The local contact is Ben Lachman at the Manton Field Office, reachable at 231-340-3607 or LachmanB@michigan.gov.
The prescription specifies distinct treatment objectives for each stand: Stands 55 and 73 require clearcut operations, while Stands 56, 60, and 61 undergo group selection thinning to 70 basal area with creation of regeneration gaps. Stand 58 requires seed tree harvest with retention of specific species and 3-10% residual trees. Deliverables include a list of personnel who marked each cruise unit, a summary of paint quantities used (measured in quarts), and GPS data synchronized with the Field Maps application. Paint lines will be color-coded by boundary type (blue for private land exterior lines, red for state exterior lines, yellow for interior payment units, and green for regeneration gaps). The contractor may deploy no more than two markers per cruise unit without prior DNR approval, and the DNR will coordinate paint supply and work schedules during regular business hours only.
