This is a Statement of Need for the National Weather Service to establish a new contract for continued support of McIDAS-X software licenses and technical support services. The requirement involves 54 existing software licenses currently in use within the National Weather Service, specifically supporting the NCEP Center's satellite data processing operations. McIDAS-X is a sophisticated geophysical data visualization and manipulation package developed by the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) that processes geostationary and polar orbiting meteorological satellites, NEXRAD radar, surface and upper-air observations, gridded numerical forecasts, NOAAPORT text products, and data from specialized observing networks.
The technical specifications require software support at a next business day response level for licenses supporting more than six units. The contractor must provide support for McIDAS-X software running on both Windows-based and Linux-based operating systems. The delivery schedule is set for July 21, 2026. The document does not specify pricing terms, response deadlines, award dates, or whether specific federal contract vehicles or set-asides apply to this requirement.
