About this file

This document is a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for a Flash Freeze System, a benchtop unit to standardize the flash freezing process of various types of biospecimens. The National Institute on Aging (NIA) is seeking a compact unit that can perform standardized flash freezing down to -80C for all types of tissues, and is compatible with a wide range of sample vessels. The system should have programmable controls and rapid pre-cool and freeze times, without the need for toxic and potentially explosive isopentane. The RFQ also includes requirements for a cryomold freezing kit and a cryovial storage holder.

The Government anticipates awarding a firm-fixed price purchase order with a 14-week delivery timeline after receipt of order. The place of delivery is the NIH Biomedical Research Center in Baltimore, MD. Quotes are due by 9:00 AM EST on August 8, 2024 and should be submitted electronically. The award will be made to the responsible offeror whose quote conforming to the solicitation will be most advantageous to the Government, with technical capability and past performance being significantly more important than price.

Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs

PURCHASE DESCRIPTION

1. Statement of Need and Purpose: This purchase is for a benchtop unit to standardize the flash freezing process of various types of biospecimens.

2. Background Information and Objective: The purpose of the research program of the Translational Gerontology Branch (TGB), The National Institute of Aging (NIA) is to understand the basic biology of aging across species, and to develop interventions that can improve healthspan and lifespan and be translated to humans. Proper standardized flash freezing of biological samples is instrumental for accurate downstream molecular and histological analysises, as well as for the interpretation of the results. NIA is creating an Aging Murine Biobank of various tissues and needs a reliable system to standardize the freezing process across different types of vessels (i.e. Eppendorf tubes, Falcon tubes and cryomolds).

3. Generic Name of Product: Flash Freeze System

4. Salient characteristics:

• Flash Freeze System - 115V~ 60Hz

• Compact benchtop unit

• Standardized flash freezing down to -80°C for all types of tissues

• Compatible with a wide range of sample vessels such as cryovials, Eppendorf tubes, falcon tubes, cryomolds and microtiter plates.

• Programmable turn on/off, freezing temperature, and times for step-down freezing. Rapid pre-cool down time to -80C and quick (60-150 seconds) time to freeze speciments.

• No need to use toxic and potentially explosive isopentane.

• Cryomould Freezing Kit

• Cryovial Storage Holder for cryovial handling

• Installation & Operator Training

6. Quantity: 1 Flash Freeze system plus 1 kit for cryomold freezing and 1 kit for cryovials handling

7. Delivery Date: Delivery within14 weeks after receipt of order

8.Period of Performance: Installation & operator training are required.
