About this file

This document is a Purchase Description for a multi-wavelength dual laser system and a fixed-wavelength laser required by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) for their Neurovascular Research Unit. The key requirements include:

The multi-wavelength dual laser system must have a tunable wavelength range of 660-1320nm and a fixed 1040nm output for simultaneous multi-color in vivo imaging of neurons, vascular endothelial cells, and mural cells. The fixed-wavelength 1035nm laser with over 40W output will enable selective optical stimulation of different neurovascular cells. The system must provide advanced features like pulse shaping, repetition rate control, and remote diagnostics.

This is a brand-name, non-competitive acquisition conducted under FAR 13.5 Simplified Procedures for Certain Commercial Items, with an anticipated award of a firm-fixed price purchase order within 14 weeks after receipt of order. Responses are due by 3:00pm ET on May 15, 2024 and must include detailed product information, pricing, delivery, and other relevant factors.

Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs

PURCHASE DESCRIPTION

1. Statement of Need and Purpose:

The study of vascular function is central to understanding neurovascular biology. We need fast in vivo measurements to investigate vascular structure and function of cerebral vasculature. We require two photons with multi wavelength dual channels imaging system to study these functions of cerebral vascular in vivo with the ability of image and stimulate multiple vascular and neuronal cells simultaneously in different imaging planes.

To achieve this, our laboratory requires a versatile, hands-free and fully integrated ultra-fast femtosecond laser system, with a complete tuning range of 660-1320nm.

Furthermore, due to the nature of our multi-color experiments, the system needs to provide a second, fixed wavelength output at 1040nm which is phase-locked to the tunable beam for imaging.

We also require a single high-power output laser capable of greater than 40W average power at 1035nm to stimulate a field of view at multiple depth using spatial light modulator (SLM) unit. The system should provide fully variable repetition rates, variable pulse length and integrated modulation capabilities via AOMs to provide pulse picking and repetition rate down selection.

2. Background Information and Objective:

One of the goals in the Neurovascular Research Unit is to identify function of neurovascular units in different brain regions in vivo in physiology and models of vascular cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID) including stroke. In order to conduct these experiments, we heavily rely on a two-photon microscope with a tunable and a fixed wavelength laser. The tunable laser with wavelength range of 660-1320 nm allows use of multiple fluorophores in the imaging set-up for simultaneous measurements of functional activity in different cell types in vivo (i.e. neurons, vascular endothelial cells, mural cells etc.). The use of a high output (>40W) with fixed output (1035 nm) with the use of SLM will allow us to perform selective and localized optical stimulation of different neurovascular cells to evaluate specific functions of individual cells with spatiotemporal resolution.
