About this file

This document is a purchase description for a federal contract solicitation seeking two Miltenyi Biotec gentleMACS Octo Dissociator with Heaters or equal cell dissociators. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke Laboratory of Viral Immunology and Intravital Imaging requires the dissociators to process up to twenty samples per experiment for single cell RNAseq experiments, as its current single dissociator can only process eight samples. Each dissociator must include a touchscreen, heating units, compatibility with C and M Tubes, a torque range of 200-4000 rpm, and a one-year parts and labor warranty. Bids are due 30-60 days after receipt of the solicitation issued by the National Institutes of Health National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs

PURCHASE DESCRIPTION

Title: Miltenyi Biotec gentleMACS™ Octo Dissociator with Heaters or Equal

1. Statement of Need and Purpose:

The purpose of this acquisition is to procure two (2) Miltenyi Biotec gentleMACS™ Octo Dissociator with Heaters, which will be used by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), Laboratory of Viral Immunology and Intravital Imaging (VIIIS) for mission critical experiments.

2. Background Information and Objective:

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives. The NINDS, which is 1 of 27 NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs), mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the brain and nervous system and to use that knowledge to reduce the burden of neurological disease for all people.

The NINDS VIIIS investigates how the innate and adaptive immune systems participate in different neurological disorders such as meningitis, encephalitis, cerebral malaria, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). This laboratory currently has a dissociator that is used to dissociate cells from tissues of interest for single cell RNAseq experiments. This current instrument only holds eight (8) samples, but typically the NINDS researchers and scientists need to process up to twenty (20) samples per experiment. Therefore, NINDS has a need for a quantity of two (2) new Miltenyi Biotec gentleMACS™ Octo Dissociator with Heaters or equal that will allow its ongoing research to continue without disruption.
