Brief Description of Supplies/ Services required and the intended use/Estimated Amount: These are beds and mattresses for the John L. McClellan Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) 4300 W 7th Street Little Rock AR 72205.

Unique characteristics that limit availability to only one source, with the reason no other supplies or services can be used: The VAMC has a need for beds and mattresses required to match existing furniture and conform to VAMCs current inventory and sterilization standards. Brand Name Only is required to supplement existing Norix beds for furniture standardization. Brand Name Only is required for Sizewise beds to conform to current sterilization standards. Standardization of beds and mattresses ensures that the same grade, wood finish, metal structure, size, and quality of supplies is provided. This allows patient care providers to use standard procedures including but not limited to the prevention of microorganisms and pathogens contamination spread, effective inventory management, and effective use of clinical space in order to ensure and enhance patient safety and the quality of care for Veteran patients.

Description of market research conducted and results or statement why it was not conducted: A survey of the mandatory sources, strategic sources, and national contracts indicate that this requirement can only be met by the manufacturer or authorized distributors for Norix and Sizewise products. Three SDVOSBs capable of partially meeting this requirement responded, one SB capable of partially meeting this requirement responded.
