Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs

PURCHASE DESCRIPTION

1. Statement of Need and Purpose: SomaScan 7K kits are able to achieve a high level of multiplexing while maintaining exceptional data quality thanks to their aptamer technology that measures up to 7000 proteins using only 55 μL of serum, plasma, and can be applied to other type of biological samples. The SomaScan Assay is a highly multiplexed, aptamer-based proteomic platform. SOMAmer reagents, the protein-specific binding reagents are selected via the SELEX process by their ability to strongly bind to a protein target. Reproducibility and stability of the SomaScan Assay is regularly tested to maintain consistency over time and from assay to assay.

2. Background Information and Objective: The Translational Gerontology Branch (TGB) as well as other laboratories in the IRP requires the use of the SomaScan 7K kits for ongoing and developing projects that include in depth proteomics analysis of human plasma samples, skeletal muscle biopsies and sorted white blood cell populations. This will also give the NIA unique opportunity to run in depth screening that are critical for normal biological system operation.
