PURCHASE DESCRIPTION

Brand name or Equal: TrueNAS M50 Storage Platform with Silver 3-Year Support Plan

1. Statement of Need and Purpose:

The purpose of this requisition is to acquire a TrueNAS M50 Storage Platform with M50 Controller Pack, read and write accelerators, TrueNAS SCALE software, and a 3-Year technical support plan (“Equipment Package”). The Equipment Package must be scalable and data safeguarded.

2. Background Information and Objective:

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services and the Federal focal point for health research. Its mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and apply that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability.

The CryoEM facility in the National Institute of Neurolofical Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is the primary means used by investigators to determine the near atomic or atomic high-resolution molecular structure of protein complexes. This involves data collection on a large scale that is constantly growing. For this reason, the CryoEM facility needs to establish a scalable and data-safeguarded data storage platform which has at least 300TB of usable storage. The data storage platform must provide temporary back up of raw data stored, allow users to have easy-read access to their raw data for 6 months after it is initially stored, allow the raw data to be sent to a long-term, back up storage system after 6 months. The data storage platform must be expandable if needed in the future.

3. Generic Name of Product: Data storage platform with hybrid storage of disk and flash, read and write accelerators, controller, and 3 years of technical and system support (Equipment Package)

4. Brand-name of Product: TrueNAS M50 Storage Platform with M50C controller, and Silver 3-Year Support Plan

5. Essential/Salient Characteristics: The Equipment Pcakage must have the following physical, functional and performance characteristics:

• 4 NVMe slots and 24 x 3.5” drive bays 1300W redundant power supply and 100-

240V 50/60Hz input power with auto-switching

• Dual, integrated 10GbE Base-T ports

Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs

• Hybrid storage including Capacity-X-Cache with 8 +2 dual parity protection and 22TB SAS 7.2K HDD. The hybrid storage must be scalable up to raw capacity of at least 484 TB, usable capacity of at least 304 TB, and must have hot spares / total drives = 2/22

• Read accelerator: read cache – 1.6 TB NVMe

• Write accelerator: write cache – 16 GB NVDIMM

• Three (3) years of system support from the data storage platform manufacturer including help desk support by phone and email on weekdays, 24/day; software and configuration support, next business day on-site hardware support, parts/storage controller replacement as needed, and proactive system monitoring.
