The Cotton Structure and Quality Research Unit has a need for a cotton classing instrument
(QTY 1, Uster HVI1000 instrument or equivalent) to support the research goals of the unit.
Minimum Specifications include:
• Compatibility with the data generated by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service
Cotton and Tobacco Program’s cotton classification instruments
• Self-contained measurement of the following cotton fiber characteristics:
o Length (Upper Half Mean Length, Length Uniformity, Short Fiber Index) o Strength o Micronaire o Color (Reflectance and Yellowness) o Color Grade o Leaf Grade o Trash Area o Trash Count o Elongation o Moisture content during testing
• Barcode scanner for data input
• Two Length/Strength samplers
• Compliance with ASTM D5867 Standard Test Methods for Measurement of Physical
Properties of Raw Cotton by Cotton Classification Instruments
• Compliance with ASTM D3025 Standard Practice for Standardizing Cotton Fiber Test
Results by Use of Calibration Cotton Standards
• Windows 10 Operating System
• Calibration Materials for Length, Strength, Color, Trash, and Micronaire
