About this file

This document is a Salient Characteristics document that describes the requirements for a Confocal Microscope System. The system must have 9 key capabilities including confocal optical imaging, Raman imaging, photoluminescence imaging, near-field scanning optical microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. It requires 25nm lateral resolution and multiple light sources including lasers. The system must include a confocal microscope, software-controlled motorized stages, automated sample heating/cooling, and specialized detectors and optics.

The related federal contract opportunity is a Special Notice published by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory to procure this Confocal Spectroscopic Microscope System via a sole-source contract to Oxford Instruments. The government deems only one source can meet the specific requirements outlined in the attached specifications. Interested parties have until July 2, 2024 to submit capability statements for consideration, but the government has sole discretion on whether to compete the procurement.

SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS

Following is a list of the salient characteristics of the required WITec alpha300 apyron Confocal microscope and spectroscopy system:

This confocal microscope system requires the following nine capabilities:

(1) confocal optical imaging,

(2) Raman imaging,

(3) photoluminescence (PL) imaging,

(4) Near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) imaging,

(5) white light transmittance/reflectance imaging,

(6) Atomic force microscopy (AFM) imaging,

(7) Pulsed second harmonic microscopy,

(8) Tip-enhanced Raman imaging, and

(9) Time-correlated single-photon-count imaging (fluorescence lifetime imaging, FLIM, and time-resolved luminescence microscopy, TLM, etc.) with multichannel time-correlated photon counting capabilities.

The system requires 25nm lateral resolution for optically interrogating materials down to the single particle level all in one microscope, where multiple spectroscopic data sets can be collected (PL, Raman, AFM, etc.) sequentially, without removing the sample and with aligned sample registration. In addition, software control will be provided for image acquisition and processing. The system includes multiple light sources: white light, and cw, pulsed and picosecond lasers. In addition, a port for coupling our own cw and femtosecond light sources is required. Automated polarization control of source and detection optics is required.

This system will be comprised of:
