About this file
This document is an attachment titled "Companion Document - AIC Specific Priorities" that provides summary information on general and state-specific research and capacity needs related to the "FY 2025-2029 Reef Research Coordinating Institute Designation and Cooperative Agreements" federal grant opportunity.
The general research and capacity needs outlined include conducting research on coral reef response to water quality, coral disease, genetics, larval connectivity, coral propagation and resilience, invasive species, and providing support for meetings, training, outreach, and monitoring. State-specific needs are also detailed for the Atlantic/Caribbean and Pacific basins, covering areas such as decision support systems, ecosystem impact analysis, genetic management plans, coral restoration, and capacity building for agencies, education, and emergency response.
The related federal grant opportunity provides funding for the establishment of two Reef Research Coordination Institutes (RRCIs) through cooperative agreements to support coral reef research, restoration, and management across U.S. states and territories. The funding opportunity has an anticipated annual award of up to $4,500,000 and requires applicants to be previously designated as a Coral Reef Research Center by the NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program in 2024.
